Cheap drinks.
This place if ok. Casual, and good music. Drinks are pretty decent and moderately priced. If you go with a good group of friends well then I am sure you can have fun.
You can dance downstairs or upstairs, but I prefer up. People seem nice.
Smell's?. As in what are those smells? Its a combo of sweaty people and tossed cookies. This place is fun and definitely wild which I like. The bartenders are very good in dealing with the large crowds and the patrons are very friendly. The drawbacks: The crowd is a little bit grungy for SF (which can be good depends what you are looking for) and the place gets really crowded & sweaty hot! Also, it is just masquerading as an Irish Pub -it plays straight Top 40 music and only the decor of teh Bar seems Irish. Last they need to hire a DJ. The music is on CD so songs completely stop, the CD switches and another song starts leaving silence for 5-10 seconds between tunes like a jr. hi party. I had this honey on the hook but she got away cuz my dance groove kept gettin' interrupted. Ha.
This split-level, split-personality bar plays it cool during the week and packs 'em in on the weekends..
In Short
Throughout the week, this North Beach tavern is a haven for Financial District worker bees enjoying a quiet, after-work pint, but on weekend nights, there's usually a line at the door. Beyond the velvet rope is a crush of young singles bumping to loud, danceable pop hits. Patrons more than five years out of college tend to migrate to the upstairs bar where dancing gives way to conversation and classic rock sing-a-longs.
Hella fun. On a Friday night, the place was jam packed from front to back. Lots of fun people, nice guys. I you like UK accents, this is the place to mingle.
Fun times!. My friends and I hit up Kells on a Friday night and had a fun time! It was our first time there and we were pleasantly surprised to find it happening by the time we arrived (around 11). Definitely easy to meet guys for us ladies and the bartenders are attentive and efficient. The downstairs dance room is a hit-or-miss b/c the dj would spin a few good (current) songs in a row then break up the flow with some weird tracks. The crowd is mid-late 20s and social. Also, the crowd is pretty much caucasian so if you're into hanging with a mix of ppl, you might want to bypass kells for a more varied experience.
Was great. Kell used to be a great place to go out but lately the club is going down. This is just a suggestion from a guy who like to share some information. This Iris club is about % 70 guys and an average of % 30 ladies. If you are a guy and want to meet somebody this is not the best place to go out. The bouncers need more training in how interact with their costumers. On the other hand this club has a great drinks and the bartender is a nice person.
Kells has gone downhill. Kells used to be a place where you could drink and sing along to the music and have a great time. The past two times I have been there, I have had a horrible time. The place was too crowded, the bouncers were drunker than some of the guests, and the music never changed. I will not be back. I would hate to see what would happen to that place if a fire every broke out downstairs . . . it takes 15 mintues to get out of the bar at the end of the night.
A Sure Thing!. My friends and I joke that when you go to Kells, you know you'll have a great time! With two levels of fun dancing music, you are guaranteed to get a workout in and meet someone.
The real deal. I am a high-heeled, suede boot-wearing, hip-hop-loving club girl. This place is like a barn and the patrons are like farm animals, yet somehow it's all good. I absolutely loved it. It's inexplicable really. But if you let go and relax, it's nearly impossible not to have a great time here.
Good spot. During the week, Kells is a good Irish bar with a friendly staff and good drinks. It is a good place to mingle around with friends, have a seat, and a few beers. On weekends, Kells transforms itself to a very noisy and crowded club blending 80s and hip-hop which works surprisingly well. The weekend crowd is attractive and fun. Overall, Kells is a good spot to go on weekdays or weekends.
