Tucked into a quiet residential area between North Beach and the Wharf, Sweeties is one of the few locals-only bars in the area. A smiling Buddha statue sets the tone for a tongue-in-cheek Asian theme at this happy hole-in-the-wall, and a medley of interesting local art decorates the walls. Many patrons are on a first-name basis with the friendly bartender, who neither gives nor brooks 'tude, keeping the bar blissfully free of the drunken bros, pointy-shoed mooseknuckles and makeup-caked barflies found at most NB watering holes. Well-behaved dogs are as welcome as their human counterparts, and on a sunny afternoon no one second-guesses the twelve-year-old who parks his BMX next to the pool table and calls next game.

Not really about the food, although for a such a small neighborhood bar, the food is quite good. Great atmosphere, very uncrowded and unrushed and the best pool table in town (free!).
