In Short – A long, wooden bar dominates the front room, flags and photos hang on the walls. This bar draws locals during the week and turns into a mixed party on weekends. The crowd is decidedly younger and livelier than its old-school North Beach counterpart, Capp's, located across the street. All the creature comforts are here: popcorn machine, jukebox with classic rock, even a disco ball (for decoration only).
fun but cramped
by audreyjl
i always like this place, but i've yet to go there when it's not totally packed and hard to move. get there earlier to actually get a spot at the bar or be able to play pool. fun music and fun scene, very collegeish atmosphere.
- Pros: fun, loud, popular
- Cons: everyone knows about it
Dan Patrick of ESPN bored us one night with his presence at the bar

Northstar Cafe has sponsored our men's fastpitch softball team for the last 4 years, gave us hats this year as well (uh, most bars don't actually give you that much) and the best is a free beer after the game. Most of the players travel in on Thursdays from all over the Bay Area, and to play a competitive game then hang out in a great North Beach spot is really a good thing. Pretty yuppie girls actually talk to us! Thanks Mark!
Chillin'

Cool place. Drinks are very reasonable and the staff is really friendly. Not a ton of talent here but some here and there. Overall, a fun place just to chill and have some drinks. It can get pretty crowded around 11-12 on Fridays, Saturdays.
Capp's Corner across the street is even more mellow but it has tons of charm and its worth checking out.
- Pros: Friendly, Prices, No Attitude
