The Scene – This venerable longshoreman's hang was saved from the wrecking ball when it was moved to its present location, where the big windows now take in stunning Alcatraz views. With its rough-hewn decor--exposed beams, chalkboard menu and thick, wooden furniture--the restaurant has no table service. Diners order at the counter and eat at long family-style tables. – – The Food – The menu features affordable prices and classic diner fare. Eggs are handled masterfully, coming out fluffy, light and greaseless. A vegetarian omelette is packed with thick-cut mushrooms…
Worst lunch I ever had. 9/27/09
by N Vachon1
My family came in for lunch, waitress took our order. About 10 minutes later she came by to tell us our lunch would be ready in 5 minutes. After 30 minutes, we started to notice that the customers that had come in after us were being served first. My husband (diabetic) needed to eat, I waived her down and ask for some bread and what the problem was. "The kitchen is running behind. Well after 35 minutes of waiting my family received their meal. I took 1 bite of my hamburger and it was raw inside, it was supposed to be medium well. At this point I was so frustrated I called her over and told her I was not going to pay for my lunch because it was raw and I found dark hair in my fries. No manager ever came over to apologize or anything. I do NOT recommend.
- Pros: none
- Cons: horrible customer service

This great find popped up when we least expected it. Really nice staff, very comfortable cafe right at the foot of Pier 39. We finished breakfast very satisfied and filled to our gills with fantastic food. Our simple egg/bacon/potato/pancake breakfast started our day right. They gave us generous portions of perfect bacon, the potatoes were great (red potatoes sauteed with green peppers and onions), and the pancakes nice and fluffy. Nice small feel to the place and there is a great view of the bay with Alcatraz dead center.
- Pros: Views, friendly staff, quality breakfast.
- Cons: Not cheap, but the quality makes the food worth it.
