Amazing bread!. Before trying Boudin's famous bread, I'd never had real aourdough bread before. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor! I also tried their olive bread (sourdough bread with Greek olives baked inside) and it's really good...I couldn't get enough. They sell sourdough bread made into animal shapes, too...you can get big loaves molded (by hand, it looks like!) into an alligator (complete with ridges on it's back), a turtle, and even a teddy bear, any of which would make a great gift for someone at home! The service is good, and the bread is definitely worth the wait if you go on a busy day.

mmm... crab cakes!. we were on our way to tour alkatraz and thought we'd stop in for lunch. so glad we did. the crab cakes are delish! the sourdough bread is also great! wonderful place with a history! check it out!

Surprisingly good chowder. I had been reading on a number of sites about the best chowder in the city and was surprised to see Boudin listed as one of the places to get it. I've been here before but it'd been awhile so I decided to try it again. Walking through Fisherman's Wharf on a weekday afternoon, I found Boudin almost empty. While the bread itself was a bit tough the chowder was shocking in its consistency and flavor. It was served piping hot and after adding a bit of pepper, tasted about as good as chowder can reasonably taste. While there's a place at the end of Pier 39 that I think edges this one out, the breadbowl really sets it apart. I'm really not a fan of huge chunks of potato in chowder, and Boudin's chowder has smaller pieces, which is nice. The chowder itself was a bit thin but not runny, and actually quite good. Overall I was shocked at the quality, considering this is in the heart of a tourist trap. I can't imagine coming here during the summer during lunchtime.

Best place for lunch on the pier- a bit touristy. Boudin is a great choice for a quick and delicious lunch on the pier. It's pretty touristy but I don't care because the clam chowder in a bread bowl is too good! Get it to go and walk along the pier or find a bench nearby. A great place to take a friend who's visiting for a little taste of SF.

The best at the Wharf!. My husband and I freqently this location and the one down the street (sometimes called "Boudin at the Wharf" with the museum and Bistro upstairs) probably every day we were in San Fran and it never disappointed! Their coffee and tea is a great way to start the day or just warm up. The sourdough can't be beat. We enjoyed the sandwich and soup combo several times, trying a couple different sandwiches, each time with the tomato soup, and it was delicious! Service is pretty fast and friendly. This place is also a value in San Fran!!

Chowder in a Bread Bowl. Boudin Bakeries are known for their exquisite breads. So close to the bay, Boudin also creates tasty, fresh clam chowder. The combination of these two dishes gives you the best clam chowder in a bowl I have ever tasted. The ambience is lively at peir 39 and Boudin is a great place to sit back and enjoy a casual meal. No matter what your group size is or your price range, Boudin will had something tasty for you.
