my favorite best SF custom haircut, cheap. Go see Julie! I feel like, FINALLY! I found ONE hairdresser who can consistently give me a really good, really cheap haircut. For those of us who know what we want, Julie is the best hairdresser in San Francisco - a gem in the city of expensive stylists who don't listen or don't have the skills to create a complicated haircut based on a magazine photo!

If you're willing to go to the Diamond Heights "Great Clips", ask for Julie, and if she's busy, WAIT for Julie. Pick up a few things at Safeway or go get a donut. You can't book appointments, so I call ahead to get her work schedule. I've had quite a few good haircuts in SF for over $60, but including a big grateful tip, it only costs me 20 bucks for Julie.

Over the last year, Julie did a great job for me on a variety of styles I brought to her - including one haircut that was a mishmash of three ideas, with no photos, only my drawings and my request to "make it look messy". She's shy, but friendly and sweet. I can space out or I can chat with her. She isn't pushy or fake. She used to be at the salon on Fulton, which was easier, but I would definitely go back up the hill to see her. Look for coupons! After your first cut, she'll give you a business card that has a $2 off coupon. I don't know where to find them now, but I've used coupons from the grocery receipt for less than $10 a cut.
