You won't find cranberry sauce or brie anywhere near this West Portal deli, but the traditional toasted subs crammed with meat and melted cheese are legendary.. It's been said that the toasted sammies at this West Portal favorite are known to cure everything from hangovers to depression to unimaginable hunger. There are three sizes available--mini, center and super--but only the super really counts. Just like there are two dozen sandwich varieties on the menu, but you really only need one: the Atomic Submarine. Filled with hot pastrami, roasted turkey breast, corned beef brisket, melted cheese, jalapenos and all the usual condiments, then topped with the deli's signature Italian dressing-like sauce, this mammoth sub is the perfect blue-collar meal to enjoy in the simple diner decked in 49ers memorabilia. There's a soup of the day, parsley-packed potato salad and bags of chips, should the Atomic not do its job. But that's unlikely.

Best Sandwich. My friend took me to this sandwich place while I was on a 4-day trip in San Francisco. Of course, it was always packed, everytime I come. The sandwiches are FANTASTIC. I swear to you, once I came here I had lunch here everyday on my stay and took a sandwich home before I left. I definitely recommend their HOT PASTRAMI. They have quality products and fast workers who know the real deal of a sandwich. Each sandwich is carefully toasted to perfection. Yum-O!

Amazing toasted sandwiches!!. This place has awesome sandwiches, a huge varied menu, and great service! There are tons of different sub sandwiches, all thick, flaky and warmly toasted, with a good selection of toppings, cheese, and condiments. They also have a lot of other great Italian dishes and sides. The guys working here are friendly and definitely know what they're doing - service is fast. I have been going here for years and love it!

Tasty Sandwiches.... Tasty sandwhiches, I ordered a medium size roast beef sandwich. Good amount of meat, and I like it cuz its toasted. Average on value, overall I recommend it.

The best sandwhich ever!. This place is soo good! Its a hidden treasure in SF! Everything is soo fresh there and the staff are really friendly. You have to try it. I have been going there for years and have never been dissapointed. Nothing compares to the sub center! Go now!

Best Subs. This place rules! The service and food are both excellent. If you are looking for a great sub this is the place to go. I've lived in SF for seven years and I think it's one of the city's hidden treasures.

WE LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!. Sub Center has the BEST sandwiches in the CITY!!!! The guys know us by name! After college, I moved to Oregon and whenever I come back to SF, I make sure this is the first place I eat! I'm a lifer!

Fresh Toasted Subs. This local hole in the wall has the best subs ever. Like many, I first went there as a kid and keep coming back as an adult. The subs are fresh, flavorful and toasted. The service is quick, even when the lines are out the door. The old down-side: eating in can be hard because seating is limited.
