Another West Portal Favorit. Nice little Italian restaurant in West Portal with good service and consistently good food.

NO DENTAL PLAN!!!. Went in for pizza specifically. Ordered the stagioni (4 toppings). The description mentions the toppings, but not that they are individualized on their own slice. Not everyone gets a slice of each ingredient because of the odd division of toppings to slices. The sauce is absolutely runny allowing your toppings to slip off uncontrollably. Three of the four toppings were undercooked, the mushrooms artichoke and olives. I DID BITE INTO A WHOLE OLIVE PIT! This pit was a surprise to the back molars. I ended up not finishing my meal (continue to write two hours later with an increased pain in the top and bottom rows). I mentioned this to the server and he seemed uninterested and stacked plates on top of it and left. When I filled out my check and handed it back, I asked for the manager. He told me that there is no manager, but he did tell the owner about the pit. THAT?S IT! Most owners would come over and offer a little compassion. I don?t ask for free hand outs and I am not litigious. All I ever ask for is a little sincerity and an appreciation for my patronage. I never met a true Italian who lacked relations with patrons. Never will I again come here and I will go out of my way to steer people clear.

Wonderful, Warm and Inviting Caffe. This is a wonderful Caffe. The food is great, their people provide timely service and the surroundings are warm and inviting. Given our demanding schedules, my wife and I eat out approximately 4-5 days a week...at least 1-2 times at Spiazzo Caffe. Their menu is diverse and offers many choices. If you are in the mood for flavorable pasta, salads, pizza, meat or fish dishes, this is the Caffe for you. We love it!!!

"SERVICE TOO FAST" - WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT. In San Francisco it is really hard to find a nice italian restaurant that will serve you in a FAST and Timely manner. To the person that wrote the review about my Father in Law's restaurant and said that they "Re-heat" their food, your full of it. The chef/owner (my father in law) prepares the dinner courses from scratch, hes been there for a very long time, so i would think he knows what he's doing. Don't eat there if you don't like it, but notice, your the only one that said it was a "below average" restaurant. Maybe you just don't know the great tastes of GREAT italian food. The workers/servers work extremely hard to prepare a meal for you and your families so that you can enjoy it and leave completely satisfied, if you felt as though it was too fast of service (who ever complains about fast service?), maybe you should have opened your mouth then and there. That way the workers/owners can improve their performance to better suit you.

Lack of Italian essence, overpowering ingredients. My parents wanted to bring me somewhere special to eat for a break from college dining food, and they chose to go to West Portal to find a decent restaurant. We stumbled upon Spiazzo Caffe and decided to dine there for the evening. Right when we walked into the place, I could smell something fishy (not only was it the stench of seafood, but a hint of cleaning product was in the air as well). We took our seats at a table that seemed too small for four, and looked over the menu. Everything looked appetizing at the time (the antipasti's, pasta dishes, and main courses). The food that we ordered came surprisingly fast for the items listed, and it was a disappointing appearance and taste. Too much salty, garlic, and cream. Perhaps the pasta dishes would be different than the antipastos, but it was the same. It came too quick for the dish of its nature, and everyone at the table agreed to its poor taste. The main dishes finally came, but at that point, we had all lost our appetite. It seemed that the 'chefs' just pre-cooked the food and just assembled it all together when the order was placed. It was the fastest meal I have ever had at a restaurant, not only because the food came unusually fast, but also my family and I just wanted to leave as soon as possible. The items on the menu are not as delicious as they seem. I probably would have had a tastier meal if I stayed in my dorm and ate the cafeteria food instead. To anyone who's looking to have a classic Italian dinner, avoid Spiazzo's.
