Editorial Review for Monster Park – by Daniel Liszt
In Short
For more than 40 years, this four-tiered arena--formerly known as Candlestick, then 3Com--has marked the southern entrance into San Francisco. In 1965, the Beatles played here and concerts still get booked, but the venue is primarily 49er central. In addition to standard concession fare, there are also stands serving chowder in sourdough-bread bowls and Gordon Biersch garlic fries.

For watching the game, Candlestick is OK. But the access is crappy, the concourses get jammed. And the bathrooms are a ridiculous over-crowded mess. Food choices are fine, but the beer lines can be long.
Pros: 49ers
Cons: Showing its age

No doubt about it, this was a lousy place to see baseball. Too cold, too windy. But football is all about storm and stress, and the German expressionist mileu that holds sway in this concrete bunker of a ballyard fits the game perfectly. Who wants sunshine and blue sky when the Niners are fourth-and-long with 10 seconds to go? You want 30-mile-an-hour gusts and steel gray skies, and that's exactly what you'll get.
Pros: Niners
Cons: Parking
