view & uploadWhen You Want The Antiques, Without the Roadshow Price. I'm not sure why furniture we put our rears on seems to cost so much more than furniture we eat off of, but...in the way of antiques at McCarney's, that's the jist of it. Where else, however, could you purchase a matching set of armoire, vanity, and chest of drawers in a flame top mahogany from the 1940's for around $1,300. Together. The three. All of it. Not to mention, delivery is only $50. Not all their prices are that good, but I saw at least 4 sets in that price range straight off the boat from Scottland in excellent shape, the same day. When they have a sale--it's an honest to goodness 50% off steal, like a perfect Victorian era 4 drawer chest with small correspondance drawers on either side of a beveled mirror, complete with carvings and ornate hardware, for $222! Yeah, I bought it. You would have too. I could spend hours inhaling the intoxicating scent of vintage varnish, pretending to be Cleopatra, lounging on a velvety chaise, located on any one of their three floors. The best part? They're nice people, too. Not at all snooty or pushy or annoyingly close behind you all the time, as if to say---you might just be a bull waiting to run through the china closet (ok, so you ARE, but Mythbusters BUSTED that myth, and you know you aren't going to break anything). If you have the budget for something higher-end, there is no single place in the city to find more unique pieces with overwhelming selection than here. (Special hint: They share their space with Grand Central Station Antiques, divided in half by a wall of furniture).
