GREAT FOOD, GREAT ATMOSPHERE <HORRIBLE SERVICE> – i was just visiting and my friends told me about three seasons, so we went. i am no expert in vietnamese food but i must say it was great food. we started with the summer spring rolls. they were pretty good, im not much of an appetizer type of guy, but they were good. i ordered the shaking beef AKA Bo Luc Lac and it was some of the tastiest food i have had to date. it was a little spicy for me but i am a wimp when it comes to spicy food. the atmosphere was great, the customers seemed to be enjoying themselves, the setting was nice. the service was HORRIBLE. the only reason i give 4 stars and not 5. the waitresses were slow and rude. had to ask multiple times for drink refills or silverware. gave dirty looks and bad attitudes when we asked for the check 5 times. and made the whole experience uncomfortable. thank god the food was good is all i can say. pretty bad when the bus boy askes you if you need a refill. i will be returning there this weekend. probably saturday night. give it another shot for my last weekend in San Fran. hopefully the sticks are removed from the servicemembers asses this time. other than that the customers were friendly and happy and the food was great.
The Gem of the Marina – I've visited Three Seasons on many occasions. I've returned not only for the food and drink but also the atmosphere and the great staff. Let's start with the Spring Rolls. There is something for everyone. My favorite is the Summer Spring roll. While one other reviewer claimed the sauces were "terrible" I find the sauces a perfect compliment and set up for the main courses. That is where the real flavor lies.
Now, the courses...Satays "Cha Ca" is a perfect delicate white fish. Soups...Dungeness Crab Meat...is great. Small Plates offer a favorite of mine the Saigon Crepe...very nice. Large Plates....I always get the Catfish in a Clay Pot...unbelievable. I hated fried catfish growing up in the South. But this interpretation is amazing...spicy and very flavorful.
Don't feel intimidated if you've never tried this food. The staff is very cordial and are more then willing to help you with any recommendations.
Food is mediocre at it's best – First of all the sauces are all terrible. Too bland and sweet. We had the Summer rolls with crab = TERRIBLE. Poor quality salty crab, dry rice paper, poorly wrapped, and needs authentic vietnamese leaves like mint. Sweet and Sour Shrimp soup=TERRIBLE. Shrimp potstickers=pretty good, but overly salty. Beef Satay=great flavor and tender. Sorbet Trio, mango was the only decent flavor, the others were freezer burnt. I went once before and thought it was terrible, but I thought I'd give it another shot and it's still terrible.
chinese gals gives 3 stars (out of 5) – i've grown up eating upscale pho, cheap pho, you name it. obviously if you're going to three seasons you're not looking for pho food at pho prices, its located in the marina. our reservation at another restaurant fell through and there was no wait at three seasons so we went in. it was a pleasant surprise, the people were friendly and the ambiance was terrific. the menu was large in selection, small in portion. something i learned the hard way: the pho is actually pad thai! so don't expect wet noodles, cause they're not!
Great food, noisy atmosphere – I read the review below, and honestly have never been to the Palo Alto location, so I don't know how they compare. But, here on my thoughts on the one in SF.
I've eaten there several times and have learned the "do"s and "don't"s. Do expect great food and a friendly staff. The food isn't traditional Vietnamese, but it certainly is good. The potstickers were great, as have been the seabass, shaking beef, and snapper. It's also perfect for big groups because they serve everything family style. However, don't expect quiet; the time we went on a Saturday night, it was quite noisy. Also, there aren't many truly (i.e. no fish) vegetarian options.
this season – great service! everyone was extremely friendly and on point. the food was good but portions really small. i was expecting more from all the reviews that i read. aver all i would recommend you try...
This small Cow Hollow restaurant spotlights traditional Vietnamese cuisine. – In Short
The restaurant is set in a dark, basement room with bamboo screens, soft lights and '60s-influenced sci-fi furniture. The menu features contemporary takes on classic Vietnamese dishes, like crisp rice-flour crepes with shrimp and pork, and "shaking beef," a salad of cool lime-cured beef and scallions. Creative interpretations of spring rolls with fillings like grilled eel and seared ahi, and satays with curried scallops and Malaysian-style lamb are also offered.
Go somewhere else – People going here must be there for the crowd and not the food. The food is just decent and very expensive. If you want good vietnamese food for less than half the cost, go to the TL or inner Richmond. The place is just a typical restaurant for the yups, expensive food presented in an "exotic" manner. If the people who come here honestly think that this place is that great...........they must not have lived in San Francisco long. I think that most of the people who really think that the food here is that good, have not given themselves the chance to explore the less desirable parts of San Francisco where the food is often better.
Fabulous Vietnamese Cuisine – There are not many frills to this destination. The food is exceptionally good and really well priced especially when you consider it is located in the Marina. I have sampled many of the rolls, satays, small plates and entrees and I have never been dissappointed. This is also a good place to try an experimental dish along side of well-known standards. Keep room for dessert as well.
Only down side is that it can be a bit crowded and once or twice the server has overlooked something due to the table.
