The first International House of Pancakes opened in a suburb of Los Angeles in 1958 serving a menu of hearty breakfast favorites. Today the restaurant still serves its signature dishes like the original buttermilk pancakes and pigs in blankets: sausage links wrapped in hotcakes. Other breakfast items include waffles, omelets, French toast and crepes. Non-breakfast offerings include sandwiches, burgers, entree-sized salads, and dinners like T-bone steak, pot roast and herb-roasted chicken.

A Mixed Bag. This IHOP is a pretty good restaurant for a cheap breakfast meal, but still leaves something to be desired. It is in a great location, right on Lombard Street by the Marina; has its own parking lot; and is open 24 hours a day. The menu has a great selection of breakfast options (served at all times), and they have specials that are large portions for cheap prices, as well as fun sides and a variety of flavored syrups. However, the service is slow and the waitstaff is not that friendly or knowledgable - several times I have received a completely wrong order, and once, my boyfriend's banana (sliced next to pancakes) was clearly bruised and mashed. Additionally, there are some questionable patrons, especially late at night. If you go, I suggest trying to make your order very clear, and not being shy about sending back something you don't want.
