Editorial Review for The Greenwich Inn – by Gayot.com

In Short
Budgets hotels are a rare find in the perpetually up-and-coming Marina District. Needless to say, this two-story 1960s property is something of an anomaly. The contemporary structure is nestled amongst great examples of the city's trademark Victorian houses. Guests are greeted by a bright blue awning and shown to standard rooms that resemble traditional motel accommodations all over the country.

This is a good and bad review. My fiance and I arrived in SF to run the Bay to Breakers and booked this room from Portland via Expedia sight unseen. The reviews were okay. They basically said "clean room", "nice for the price", etc. When we got there we were shown a room that had a smell. It was somewhere between a bottle of Aqua Velva, cat urine, cigarette smoke, and people urine. The innkeeper said that it was Pine-sol. While I was in there discussing the un-pine-sol like qualities of this smell my eyes began to burn. When we asked for a different room he said that he had none and was completely booked up. My fiance went down the hall and talked to some peopel who had their door open and asked how their room was. They said their was just fine - she noticed no "Pine-sol smell". Eventually the innkeeper made arrangements for us at the Travelodge around the corner - which was clean and scentless. So props to him for recognizing the problem. I don't normally complain but this was up there with finding a cigarette butt in your mashed potatoes and being told... oh these are "seasoned mash pototoes". So in short the innkeeper won my respect for fixing the problem, but I don't think he'll be winning my repeat business.

Pros: Honesty & integrity

Cons: Smelly Room
