downhill after 30 years. We have been loyal customers for 30 years, but someting has changed for the worse. The waiters were distracted. The menu has been reduced. The food quality has decreased dramatically. I wonder if management of this 50+ year old gem has changed. We hope they fix this favorite. We will go again in a few months before writing the obituary.
Great food, warm atmosphere, kid-friendly.
This is the place my family returns to with every opportunity and occasion since 1995. Their food is great, owners and serving stuff make sure every customer is pleased (from old-timers to random walk-ins). Shrimp Scampi or Ciopino are delicious and a tough choice to pick for a seafood lover. My husband loves Lasagna & Veal Scallopine. As for appetizers - you can't go wrong with sauteed mushrooms, fried calamari or bruschetta. If you are there with kids, Tony (chef, owner) will accommodate you with child-friendly picks (like sauce-free and more cheese) and pizza of course! :)
Overall, a wonderful place, I just wish they had opened up in the Peninsula now. :)
Beautiful Private Room. My frineds and I experienced Villa Romana due to a very good recommendation. The private room was so beautiful and food and service were just delightful. The beautiful venue made my birthday truly special
Do not pay attention to him.
My husband and I came in with our child on the eve of The Bay To Breakers. Villa Romana was very busy and the staff was doing a fabulous job with all the guests. My husband , Bob, was having a bad day, and took it out on the waitress, who was very gracious. In summary, the food and service was just wonderful!
We will come back without Bob, next time.
lousy pizza tough calamari pricie only one kind of wine by the glass no kids menu bad attitude too.
pizza was ridiculously uncooked and not as big as it should be -we ordered an 18 incher maybe it was 15- and had to send it back because it was almost raw $26. it came back slightly betther but still uncooked .Calamari apetiser came AFTER the pizza and it was also uncooked and super tough. we took one bite and that was it $10 . No wines by the glass other than chablis or burgundy $5.95. Are we still in that dark age? no kids menu. We asked for a side/kids order of spaghetti with meat sauce for my 10 year old and they said they could do it for $10. we declined the "generous" offer. So a bad pizza a bad calamari and 2 beers for $50. What a joke.
When i spoke with the manager and asked him if they had changed cooks or pizza makers or management - i' ve been there before the new menus and prices many times --he said No.And when i voiced my displeasure for the overall quality he suggested i don't go there any more. And i' ve been a good customer for the last 24 years.Well never again. i was embarrased and sad. Completely the wrong approach towards a customer. No excuses other than they had a long day - what kind of excuse is that?
He even mentioned that his mom was helping out. Wow .
very flavorful thin crust pizza. I like their authentic new york style thin crust pizza. it is prepared with ingredients that are so obviously fresh, it makes my mouth water just thinking about it. i am a pizza aficionado and i tell you the truth when i say this pizza is pretty darn good.
Superb italian cuisine.
Let's just say that we were low on our expectations for this restaurant. We heard it was good, but did not believe that a pizzeria-restaurant could be so great.
The minute we strolled up to the restaurant from the outside we saw the rustic neon 1950's sign that said Villa Romana ristorante and pizzeria. It was a beautiful original sign that unfortunately, doesn't give the restaurant justice as you tend to think of it as a pizza place. It is not just a pizza place!
The southern italian cuisine reminds you of the amalfi coast. It encompasses many seafood dishes as well as some very exquisite pasta dishes. I ordered the linguine frutti di mare, and my husband ordered their lasagna. Both were superb!
The service was equally great. The owner, Tony, masterfully manages the dining room and ensures both the quality of food and service. Matt, our waiter was a seasoned pro that understands customer service to the "t".
We will go back to try their pizza. The table next to us ordered a very appealing pizza margarita.
Small cozy Italian restaurant.
Very impressive small Italian restaurant in the city. I was told that it has been around since the early 50's and decided to give the place a whirl. So, I made my boyfriend take me there last night. To our surprise the place was very small, yet very, very cozy. It has nice cozy booths and a very warm and inviting appeal/allure to it. The brick-oven pizza is prominent when you walk in the front door, as is the owner twirling pizzas constantly behind the oven. So, we were seated by the host (tony) and were served by (brian). The food was delivered hot and the presentation was pretty and brian and tony both made sure that we were enjoying our whole dining experience. brian was very busy, and tony was there to pick up where brian left off, almost by design. i mean these two had customer service down to a science, actually an art form!
Later, tony thanked us for dining at his restaurant (i guess he owns the place), and handed me a gift certificate (he said it was a promotion that everyone was given that night). I looked at it and it was ten bucks!
So, two points. 1. I've never had the pleasure of having the owner thank me for dining at his restaurant before. 2. Noone has ever randomly given me a free gift cert before. In summary, we will be back.
Quick bite turned into best meal of my life.
Went to this place with my buddy for a quick bite to eat and ended up having the Best meal of my life. The waiter was a first class guy that simply explained the menu options available and from that point on all I can tell you is that we were chowing down some of the best Italian grub I've ever tasted.
My grandparents are both off the boat from Palermo, Sicily. And i gotta tell ya they would be impressed with this place if they were allive today.
My buddy ordered their chicken piccata, and I had their crab-cioppino. both were awesome!
The waiter is a cool little guy that's always got a smile on his face, and seems to have been there forever since everyone in there knows him by name, Sam by the way.
The owner dude is cool as well. Tony, as I recall.
Best Crab-Cioppino Ever..
Villa Romana prepared the best Crab-Cioppino I have ever tasted, bar-none!
It was delicious, abundant, and reasonably priced. It beats the wharf or anywhere they serve it ten fold!
Tony, the owner is professional and truly concerned about each and everyone of his diners having not just a good or ok time, but a fabulous and memorable dining experience.
Sam, his head waiter is not too shabby either!
