view & uploadWhether filled generously with pastrami and Swiss or avocado and American, the sandwiches at this Inner Sunset deli draw long lines of patient customers.. It's always the same friendly faces working behind the tall counter at Yellow Submarine--the same people who have been making their signature Boston-style stuffed subs on toasted bread for decades. They don't write down your order because they don't need to. Choose your meat, cheese and condiments ("everything" includes mayo, mustard, tomato, lettuce, pickles, oil, vinegar and hot sauce), then proceed to get out of the way and wait patiently with the other diners, who spill out the door and into the adjoining dining area at lunch time. Sandwiches, available in medium or large, are big enough for a meal on their own, but vinegary-and-sweet potato salad or homemade fries dripping with oil are available as sides.
SF Local Favorite for Submarine sandwiches. Jan 2008. When I moved to SF in 1990 a local native introduced me to Yellow Submarine and has become one of my favorite places to eat. I really appreciate the exceptionally large ?Medium? submarine sandwiches and have never been able to finish the ?Large? submarine sandwich. I recommend the ?homemade hot sauce? on my ?medium turkey with extra avocado? submarine sandwich. Your order is made on the spot and 5 minutes later your sandwich is ready for your consumption. I also recommend their homemade French fries. This family owned place is fast, friendly and their sandwiches are delicious. ? SF Native Since 1990
Best Sub Sandwiches Ever. Back in NYC, we used to go to Blimpies, take them out to the Brooklyn Promenade to eat. Yellow Sub comes closest to those huge, yummy, dripping with goodness heros. You can get them toasted but I like mine "cold." A nice selection of stuffings. Fried potatoes are made with REAL potatoes and are good and greasy. It's a great hero sandwich. If you call in your order ahead of time, you can avoid having to stand around for 15 mins. waiting.
Great sandwiches. I have been eating at this place since I was in high school, which is more than a decade. The sandwiches taste great and the service is good and the prices are just right.
Best subs in SF. Since my high school days working in a sub shop, I've always appreciated and cherished a good sub. This place fits the bill. At other local places, their subs can seem like an afterthought, but here the stuff is top knotch. Ask for extra homemade hot sauce if you dare. Good family run vibe, too.
Good Food. The sandwiches are good, tasty and inexpensive. I have eaten here for many years. Try the Pepper Steak Sub. The portions have remained the same. The Turkey is much better than before.
Great Sandwhiches but..... I love coming to this place because they make great toasted sandwhiches. The only thing that I wish they would do is stop being so cheap on the meat. I remember coming to this place about 5 years ago. The sandwhiches use to be bigger, and there would be more meat. But the last 2 years, they've been making their sandwhiches smaller, which is dissapointing. I don't mind them raising the price but keeping the quality the same. Other than that they make very tasty sandwhiches.
Favorite Sandwich Shop. I can't comment on 95% of the sandwich choices on the menu but, the steak and cheese sandwichs are the BEST. Pair one with the thick fresh fried potato chips and my belly is soooo happy! Ask for extra hot/spicy on the sandwiches... yummy.
