What People Are Saying About Thanh Long

In Short – This eatery attracts a surprisingly diverse clentele--families out for a celebration squeeze in next to surfers, grandmothers and hipsters. Foodwise, Thanh Long treads a path between French, Vietnamese and Chinese cuisines--entrees include tiger prawns with garlic noodles, Saigon beef and roasted Dungeness crab. For dessert, there is a creme caramel cake.

Editor's Tips

What to Drink:
The slightly sweet Asian martini pairs well with many of the more boldly spiced dishes.
Parking:
Street parking is available, but iffy. There is validated parking for $8.

Don't Rule Out This Great Date Spot

by nillacookie at Citysearch

After hearing rave reviews about it from our friends and family, we decided to finally check it out for ourselves. I must say that this review may be a little biased since a friend works there and gave us exceptional service. BUT, we didn't know the other servers, bus boys, etc. all of whom gave us better service than we've seen in a long time.

Now for the food, we had the crispy wontons (average), mussels (yummy, yummy flavor but too oily), and the calamari (too salty). For our entrees, we had the bass with ginger sauce and, of course, the roasted crab and noodles just to see what all the fuss is about. Honestly, the bass was more memorable than the crab. The crab was a small one and nothing to write home about. Although I love any kind of noodles, these were pretty boring. Not that we wouldn't ever have the crab and noodles again, but I'd suggest you sample the rest of their menu. You might find a gem in the perfectly cooked and melts-in-your-mouth sea bass. Enjoy!!

the food was way too over priced, garlic noodles were way too salty. the portions were too small. however, service made up for the mediocre food.

Too salty, too buttery, too little and too overpriced.

by kukusnafu at Citysearch

My girlfriend and I went on a late Friday night and the place was not busy. We ordered one dish of calamari, one plate of garlic noodles, and one of their famouse roasted crab. The calamari was way too salty and the crab was too buttery. The noodles tasted like any other noodles at any Chinese restaurants (just add garlic).

The service was great and we had an OK time. We don't mind paying the extra bucks for great dining but the truth of the matter is, this place lacks average portion and good food quality. I wouldn't mind paying for smaller portions if the taste was excellent, but unfortunately the overall taste was ok. Dungeness crab should never be priced at $35.00+ when you can get it cheaper at your local Chinese restaurant.

We definitely DO NOT recommend it.

  • Pros: Service and friendly staff
  • Cons: No parking; Small portion; Over priced; Food is below average
