In my experience, the staff at the Beanery are consistently courteous and polite. Unlike the previous reviewer, I can't remember having to wait in the 3 years or so I've been a customer. In fact they usually have my drink as well as my wife's lined up as soon as they recognize us. Most importantly, the coffee is excellent and way more reasonably priced than starbucks

I really like to support local independent establishments but not this one. I have been buying espresso and beans there for almost a decade. Putting up with the smokers at the outside tables (at least they leave ashtrays on the tables) and the owner's pipe smoking that greets you on many days as you are walking in the door. I have put up with the slow often confused service depending on who is working there. I ordered a triple espresso and when I tried to have them add a couple of extra shots after a few minutes the guy at the counter wanted to charge me 1.95 for a double espresso instead of the 1.00 for the two extra shots, like they do at Starbucks and many other coffee shops. Considering that the owner himself charged me just an extra buck before. You would think that coming there for years would make me a valued customer. So I asked the owner about it and he told me that that is the policy of the store and that I shouldn't be so cheap! Other people have noted that he is not the nicest person and I would agree. But I guess it depends on the day. But you would think that the attitude of the owner would be positive toward those who own houses nearby and are raising their kids in the neighborhood. Guess I will have to start going to starbucks where at least they have wi-fi

The Beanery is extremely cozy, which makes for limited seating but the aromas that waft out of the roaster and variety of drinks brewed at the counter are well worth the small quarters. Your search for the perfect spot to ruminate over Chomsky's linguistic theory is over.
