If you prefer the less sweet Chinese sponge cakes, this is probably the best bakery in the Sunset district for that. I think they make the best green onion/ham rolls in the area. The filling is savory and has plenty of ham & green onions compared to other bakeries who offer a mere sprinkling of meat/onions. I like their strawberry sponge cake and they're opened Thanksgiving Day so you can order their various pies - pumpkin, custard, orange, apple, etc, ahead of time for pick up. The most expensive pie is a mere $8.50. Their hot dog buns, BBQ pork buns and cocktail buns aren't bad either. That, plus a cup of Starbucks (block away) makes for a nice Sunday AM treat. Weekdays, the sm eating area is filled w/little old Asian men or contractors having breakfast before going off to work or activities. On weekends, it's little old ladies who convene there to socialize w/coffee and pastries. The bakery here is better than the one down the street on the opposite corner.

Sunset Bakery has the best Mandarin Orange cake that I have every had. There cakes are light and spongy and are reasonably priced. All of their fruit cakes are good but the strawberry cake is the best. PROS: CONS: No Parking
