If you're into drunk 70 y/o men, this is the place!. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars, but I had to go with 3 because this bar is pretty ghetto and has a few too many men over the age of 70 in it. Those are the negatives, but I did find a few positives in this grungy bar for the locals. The Irish bartender was totally awesome! This is a bar strictly for locals, so as a newcomer I was a bit scared I'd get ran off quickly. The bartender made us feel totally welcome. She talked with everyone, including the two kids from LA asking for the Lakers game. It took her a moment to figure out I wasn't saying liquor game (which I need to find out what that is), but she nicely turned it on so the two of us could watch while everyone else turned their backs on us. Towards the end of the game I totally saw everyone getting into it, even if they wouldn't admit it! During half time we played a round of pool (needs quarters), checked out the jukebox, and admired all the old time pictures on the walls. Great beers on tap (my fave is the Big Daddy IPA) and a full bar. Everyone was nice, that is, they didn't kick us out for taking up one of the 4 TV's with the Lakers game. All in all it was A-OK. I imagine it gets a little bit more fun on weekends based on the other reviews I see here. I'm still on my quest to find a good Lakers bar with real Lakers fans, but this one will definitely do for now

Good Place to Get Tanked with your Buddies!. A very low-key neighborhood bar where outsiders are welcome! I have taken many friends there because it's just good old fashioned fun: pool tables, juke box, video games & darts. Great eats available next door and walking distance up Balboa.

Darling customers, History of Darling Bartenders!, full of character.. In the past I have spent much time at the Hockey Haven. It is ideal for people who want to chill out as it is not too crazy and is full of interesting people. All the customers are extreme sweethearts and always so friendly. The owners always make you feel welcome with their Irish charm. The bartenders are exceptional and are just lovely.

I am presently back home in Ireland and the Hockey Haven will always remain in my heart along with the brilliant people I have had the pleasure of knowing as well as my good friends, erin, norbert, george, jane, sandy, eric, john, john and jo, steve, and many many more. When I visit SF he Hockey Haven will be the first place I will go for a large strong Madras!. Gwen x.

Perfect Place to Relax. The Juke Box has a great playlist, the place is never crowded and drinks are served instantly. If you like dive bars then you will love this place. No hassles, no annoying customers, just a bunch of people that want to relax and have a good time.

No hockey during playoffs!. My husband and I went in here to see the Wild vs. Ducks playoff (conferece-determining) game, and they had baseball on both TVs.
