Editorial Review.
Outer Richmond neighborhood Korean features tableside barbecue plus plentiful authentic dishes such as kimchi soup, bulgogi and hot pots.

Pretty good.
Was scared w/ all the Tourist bus reviews, but made my 7pm reservation on Sat and it was pretty empty. For 5 of us 2.5 dishes would have been enough. They didn't tell us we got free onion pancakes, so we ordered a plate of those and the bibimbap had no rice and no granite bowl. Oh well. It was a good filling dinner. I like how they have round BBQ tables for larger group. Great place for a larger gathering of friends. I will be there again!

Finally--Good SF Korean BBQ.
Since visiting Seoul for business, SF Korean BBQ has been disappointing (unlike LA & NY). This was the best Korean I've had in the city. Our Kalbi was excellent--very flavorful with the right balance of heft and tenderness. The spicy rib-eye bulgogi was also very good, all tender beef and no fatty gristle. The spicy beef soup was also as good as I've had in SF. The panchan side dishes were very fresh--all of the flavors seemed right-on. ASK for charcoal instead of gas--it says "Wooden Charcoal" out front, but at first they lit a Gas Grill. No more reluctant visits to Brothers...I'll be back here when I need my local fix.

The best Korean food in the city.
I've been to pretty much all of the Korean restaurants in the city and I have to say that Han-Il-Kwan has to be my favorites. That Andrew guy doesn't know what he's talking about. The tourist buses are ALWAYS out there.
Galbi has to be heavy. It's supposed to fill you up! If you're not a hearty eater, I'd recommend staying away from the galbi then. Go for one of the stews.
The ban-chan are all very fresh and service has always been good for me (well with the exception of when I tourist bus was around).
A must try!

The Best.. so far.
This place has been my favorite Korean restaurant in SF for the past 6 years. Their side dishes are not only good but they give you a bunch. If you go with a group, everyone is bound to find something they like.
My favorite is Gal-Be. I do like this place better than Brothers or Seoul Garden in J-Town.
If you look Korean enough, they might even give you a side dish of spicy raw crab - not for the delicate stomachs.

Great Halbimbap!!!.
This is hands down the best korean restaurant in the bay area. It beats Brothers and Koryo. Be sure to ask for the wood charcoal when eating there -- the default are the gas grills which don't give as much flavor. Also, remember to order the Halbimbap -- it's not on the menu and is usually only ordered by Koreans. It's excellent.

You can do better..
First, the Korean tourists don't come here because of the quality of the food; it's probably because it's easier to stop a bus in the middle of Balboa than on Geary or Clement.
The side dishes ("pan-chan") are decent, but the grilled beef ("kal-bi") is too heavy, and is flat-out inferior to that of Brother's Restaurant ("Hyung-Jae Kal-bi") on Geary at 4th Avenue. I've eaten at both restaurants many times (I actually live near Han Il Kwan), and Brother's beats Han Il Kwan hands-down.

One of the best in SF.
This is one of my favorite 3 Korean places in San Francisco. Bus loads of tourists *from Korea* stop here for dinner. The staff have a great sense of hospitality and their side dishes are always super fresh - a must.

delightful and delicious.
This restaurant does not disappoint! The appetizers were great, and there was plenty of them. We ordered the Kal-be and the dol sot bee bim bap, and both were incredible. The service was really good ... the servers were very friendly and prompt. I am so happy that I've found this restaurant, and I'll be bringing friends there often. Yum!
