Editorial Review for Gaspare's Pizza House & Italian Restaurant – by Emily Landes

In Short
Stepping into this Richmond District institution is like stepping back into 1950s New York: Working jukeboxes line the wall, tables are covered in classic red and white checked tablecloths and plastic grapes hang from the ceiling. Sicilian native Gaspare Indelicato has been serving up thin-crust pizza and homemade pasta since 1985, and has established a fan base among displaced New Yorkers who come from all over the city for a little taste of home.

The Extras

In addition to pizza, lasagna and NY-style cheesecake (baked by Indelicato's wife) are house specialties.

I was skeptical about ordering pizza because I had been to Gaspare's once before, and my entre was mediocre. I thought I would not return, but my buddy was in town and we wanted some pizza. I read some reviews that were mixed. We ordered a sausage and mushroom pizza with anchovies. The crust is a crispy thin perfection. Plenty of toppings with olive oil dizzled lightly on top. It's one of the best pizzas I've had. I may not go back for an entre, but when I want pizza I am only sorry that I didn't discover this place sooner. It rocks. Be prepared to wait, because Gaspare's has quite a loyal following . . . and now I know why.

Pros: The pizza is as good as Pizzetta 211

Cons: Busy, Entres are only OK

Been going for years and food has always been good, pizza incredible! Especially the Margerita! If you like lots of meat get the bruce's special. Only once the pizza wasn't the same and it was because Gaspare or Daniel ( Gaspare's son) didn't make it that night. They're a good family, which makes their restaurant a great place to go. (plus they stay open till midnight)

Pros: great pizza, atmosphere, great prices

Cons: sometimes parking is hard
