Favorite Neighborhood Restaurant. This is a San Francisco landmark. Family owned businesses like this add a special flavor to the city. I have been eating here ever since it opened in the Richmond district 28 years ago. I am a faithful customer. The food is always wonderfully great. I love the owner Jimmy, and the relaxing atmosphere. I always look forward to dining at Ernesto's and bring my friends there to share the experience. I feel grateful that it still in business.

...A great meal!. I had one of the best meals ever last night. Started with a caesar salad--very good. My entree was a special: fillet of sole stuffed with shrimp and crab. OUTSTANDING! Perfectly prepared, with a light sauce. Also fresh spinach--delicious.

Followed up with a "saltimboca" (sp?), essentially a rum-type cake, for dessert. Again, excellent.

Service was very good, and very good prices. Would definitely recommend/ visit again.

Long time Italian favorite!. I've been coming to this place for over 20 years and still love it like the first time I tried it! The food is fresh and tasty, generous portions, and complimentary hot fresh bread.... all the fixings I crave. The wait staff is friendly and prompt and the atmosphere is very laid back and comfortable. My favorite pasta dishes are the prawns and artichoke pasta, mussel pasta and chicken with rigotoni.

Great Italian food. My wife and I ate here tonight. Whenever we are in San Francisco, we make a point to dine at Ernesto's. The food is consistently good, always fresh, homemade, large portions, delicious, and reasonable prices. We look forward to our visits here. It is so refreshing to see that a traditional Italian restaurant is still thriving in the neighborhood. It is not fancy, but fresh and clean. We come here for the great food.

Best in the Neighborhood. We have been eating here for over 20 years. It is consistently good. Very friendly waiters and the owner comes out and talks to us. We love the personal touch. As soon as you sit down, delicious garlic bread is brought to the table. You can have as much as you want. The main courses are delicious and the servings are large so that we usually take some home. It is so comforting to know that a family owned and operated restaurant like this is still around. It adds that special flavor to San Francisco.

Feels like an East Coast neighborhood gem. Tried this place last night for the first time. We got there around a half hour before closing - I asked if we were too late for dinner and was told, "Of course not, come on in!" My husband and I are both originally from the East Coast, and although San Francisco is definitely our home now, from time to time we miss the casual, homey Italian restaurants of New York. Ernesto's hit the spot. The staff couldn't have been friendlier, even asking if we were new to the neighborhood. I get the feeling that this place gets a lot of locals - we were told that they'd been in business for 23 years. When our entrees came out, I could understood why. Eggplant parmesan was especially delicious. It's just so great to go to an inexpensive restaurant and get great food and great service. Makes you want to go back for more. If you are looking for a good place for some Italian comfort food - this is the place - great food, great prices, no pretense.

Tasty!. I live right down the street and the wonderful scent of garlic bread fills the whole block. I finally went in to see if it was as tasty as it smelled. IT WAS!! It's full of regulars and even though I strolled in right before 10pm they were happy to seat me and the service was wonderful. There's a little old woman there that does all the cooking and she's amazing! The Cannelloni is to die for and as fresh as you could get. The price was VERY reasonable at $25 for two people.

Neighborhood Italian. It's too bad they call themselves a pizza restaurant. Order one of the pastas with marinara sauce and a side of sausage, and you'll feel like you're back home in, well, actually, Chicago or New York or Philadelphia or Boston.

The pizza and calzones are excellent, too.
