Editorial Review for St. Ignatius Church – by Steven Jenkins
In Short
Since 1855, St. Ignatius has been the center of the Jesuit pastoral ministry in San Francisco, serving both the spiritual and material needs of the community. The church celebrates mass daily, offers the full range of sacraments and provides its parishioners and community members with a number of opportunities for spiritual enrichment, education and service. The parish works closely with several social organizations, such as Project Open Hand, St. Anthonys Dining Room and St. Vincent de Paul.

I was born and raised Catholic, however, St Ignatius and the Jesuits stirred my soul and awakened my faith and love of the Church and for Jesus. Aside from the obvious beauty of the exterior of the Church, whether looking at the Church from Ashbury heights, northbound on the 101, or from Lone Mountain, on a bright clear day, or in the evening when it's lit up, the liturgy is relevant and moving. No where have I ever heard a priest do such an outstanding job of connecting everyday life to the gospels. In our secular society, no other place in the world do I find my heart filled with more joy, peace and happiness. This place inspires me to live my faith outside of the church, everyday of the week. No hyperbole here, a truly great place.
Pros: Stirring homlies, beautiful inside and out, friendly parishoners, terrific music
Cons: Mass is only 1 hour
