In Short
"Shampoo" movie stills, tiki curiousities and a water-filled vase with sunken eight balls set a playful mood at this basement-floor beauty salon. Much larger than it appears from the outside, the 12-chair room extends the length of the building, looking out onto a small backyard. Owner Patrick Richards caters to an unpretentious clientele with cutting-edge cuts and hair color. Signature treatments include Japanese thermal reconditioning, scalp treatments and balyage, a highlighting technique.

First off, I just want to say that I really love my hair cut that I got at this salon! I find everyone that works there to be really sweet and friendly. But also stylish! I went in and told them what I was looking for. I even brought a picture in. This lovely lady by the name of Diana said she could totally hook it up and make it happen. She cut it and even suggested ways to make it work better for my hair type and shape of face. I have to say it is hard to trust someone with your hair for the first time and I went from longer hair to a much shorter style. But she was so great and people everywhere I go keep telling how great I look and I believe them. Because of Diana I have new found confidence, thanks girl!!!!! Try this place out you will not be disappointed!

Patrick has been cutting my hair for 11 years, and not only mine, but my sisters and both my parents and even my grandmother's hair. Everyone I have recommended him to has given me great feedback. His color looks natural, and my hair actually usually looks better a few days AFTER I get it cut, because how it looks when i leave the salon only matters for a few hours. He really usually just makes my hair looks its best. I have insane curly hair, so this is no easy task. My sisters with straight hair come out with equally awesome cuts. He really is the best, and the vibe is really nice at the salon. Patrick is also one of the coolest people I've ever met, the music and his conversation is a fun way to pass some time. I've honestly gone with my grandmother when she got her hair trimmed, and she fell asleep while I talked to Patrick. But she falls asleep a lot. And even when I've needed a cut and Patrick was away (he always manages to squeeze me in when he's here), the other stylists have always done a great job. Everyone from the Pac Heights homemakers to the hipsters to my bicycle loving dad seems to leave pleased with their 'do. And I honestly wonder why Patrick doesn't move to LA and start charging like $800 for a cut and color. But don't tell him, I would start having to drive there just to get my hair cut.
