The good: this store is well stocked, they have competitive prices, and most everything is easy to find. The male staff members have (in my experience) always been friendly, helpful, and knowlegeable. The bad: I went in a while back, looking for an Elizabethan-type collar for my dog. I asked for *exactly* what the vet had told me to ask for, and the clerk ignored me for a moment, then (when I asked a second time) said, "Oh, no... we don't have that." I quickly glanced around and just happened to see the product I was looking for right next to the register (!!) and showed it to her. She said, "Oh, okay." Just like that. It was clear she had no interest in helping anyone (it was not busy at all and I am very courteous when I ask people for things). I've had a similar treatment from the other female staff member... not sure why that is.

I miss the former owners! I've been shopping at B&B since they originally opened and have continued to shop there after the new owners took over because the prices are still competitive (although they most definitely have increased). The new folks don't know their inventory, are unable to make recommendations and often just read aloud from the merchandise labels when asked the difference btwn brands. If you know what you want when you walk in, down to the brand and size, you'll do OK there. But I sorely miss the expertise and knowledge offered by the former owners. Example: I recently had surgery and needed to purchase smaller sized packages of cat litter than what I usually bought, so I asked, "What's the least expensive unscented clumping litter you sell that weighs 15lbs or less?" The response was to send me back to the litter section, because no one could answer my question, nor could they pull up the info from their database. The only people who seem to know the merchandise are the two stock fellas who worked for the former owners, but unfortunately, they don't speak very much English. Also, unlike Pet Food Express, they don't issue a store credit if you need to return an opened package of food your finicky pet has refused. They suggest donating it, which is a nice thought, but not always convenient. If they believe in donating opened bags of food, why don't they just issue a credit and do the donating themselves? The people who work there are blandly pleasant, but seem pretty uninvolved in the business. Maybe at least part of what made the original B&B so great was that the people behind the counter were invested in the business.

Pros: low prices, large selection, at least they're not a chain!

Cons: unknowledgeable, uninvolved workers
