Sushi snobs may balk at the menu's heavy reliance on the California roll, but fans of this little Japanese joint insist that the low prices make up for any lack of originality. Many of the signature creations are variations of the aforementioned classic jazzed up with extras like unagi, tempura and spicy mayo sauce. Those who don't see favorable options on the menu may design their own from an ample list of ingredients.

Sushi Boom is the closest sushi place to my apartment, so I was a regular. Although it was never great sushi, it was pretty good and the price was right. But I stopped going last month because on my last few visits and take-outs the quality has gone further downhill. I think they're keeping the fish for a day or two too long. The hamachi was dry and fishy, and the California rolls smelled fishy and the taste was sub-par. I've never been disappointed by their shrimp nigiri, though. The waitresses are real nice, too.
Pros: The price is right; friendly waitstaff
Cons: Sushi tasted old.
