What People Are Saying About Q

Original works by local artists and whimsical tables embedded with games diners can play while they wait make Q one of the neighborhood's funkiest--and busiest--restaurants. The Southern comfort food favorites don't hurt this endearing eatery's popularity either. Hordes of casually dressed creative types show up each night for huge plates of fried chicken, mac and cheese (brilliantly topped with tater tots) and meatloaf, although there are always a few specials with a more West coast flavor like herb-crusted fish or seared beef medallions. Brunch brings much of the same--hearty fare like…
Editor's Tips
- Where to Sit:
- The two sidewalk tables are a nice place to sip one of Q's well-chosen beers on tap and watch the bustle of Clement Street.
- Know Before You Go:
- The colorful, yet robust surroundings, and arguably the best macaroni and cheese in the city makes Q great for kids.

Ruined Mother's Day Brunch - Rude Service
by MomWhoLovesAGoodBurger at Citysearch
My husband an I used to live in the neighborhood and eat at Q all the time (almost every weekend). The owner Andrew knew us and the staff was great. We were always welcomed with a smile and everyone was super nice. Well...things have changed.
I decided it would be fun to go back for Mother's Day brunch since I had been craving the Q burger since I had my son almost two years ago. Well, we got there a few minutes before 10am on Mother's Day. There were two other parties ahead of us outside. The host assumed we were all together for some strange reason. We told him we were not. After that, he didn't bother writing down names of who was there first.
Well, in the meantime a bunch of others start showing up and Q still isn't quite open yet. Finally, they open. So all of these people go in ahead of us because they happened to be milling around the door while we were waiting on the sidewalk to stay out of the way. We are with our 21 month old son. The host decides to put us at a small two top table even though we are a party of three. We asked for the four top table that is in the back behind the booths. The host doesn't allow us to sit at a bigger table. We accept this, sit down and work it out at the smaller table.
In the meantime, other people are being seated after us and getting served while we are just sitting there for 10-15 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge our existence. There was a couple that came about five minutes after us, who our waitress tended to right away, but she continued to ignored us. The host finally came over to ask how we were doing and we told him we still had no waitress. The host noticed our menus behind the table and told us the reason no one came over was because our menus weren't visible. My husband put the menus on the bench since the table was too small to keep them out of the reach from my son would have knocked them all over the place. Clearly these people don’t have kids!
Finally, they sent someone over to take our order (but never apologized for the delay). We got drinks, but after that we waited and waited. No one checked in or came by. This never would have happened a few years ago. Then, we asked someone where our food was and our waitress came over and again said that our food order was delayed because our menus weren't visible earlier (basically they blame us again). Again, she didn't seem remorseful and never apologized. We ended up canceling our order and leaving hungry 45 minutes later. The waitress gave us a flip response when we told her to forget our oder. She was extremely rude and unprofessional.
Then, the host went on and recited a very insincere line that they "hoped to be able to serve us better next time". Well, here's news for Q, here will never be a next time. You don't deserve to be in business if you are rude to your customers. Anyone dining with kids should avoid Q. Anyone with self respect should avoid Q.
This restaurant basically ruined my Mother's Day brunch. I was very upset to receive this type of service. I have recommended Q to so many people in the past. I feel sick that anyone I know might have come here and been treated the way we were. It was really just the worst experience I've ever had. I felt like they just kicked us in the head and then just walked away with no remorse.
This restaurant used to care about its customers. It used to have a warm and friendly vibe. But now it is just another restaurant in San Francisco only interested in turning over tables and making money.
We will never, ever go back.
Definitely not a dive Mr. Fieri!

I have been here twice for breakfast and once for dinner. I really like this place. I am not too attached to anything in the Inner Richmond, but this place is a keeper. Unique decorations, fast friendly service, and delicious food. Their bacon benedict is so savory it should be illegal. For dinner I had the mussels and fried, and they were great. I am not surprised this place was on the food network, it's a neighborhood gem!
- Pros: Good food
- Cons: Long wait for brunch
Baguette Bfast
by benchiaramonte at Citysearch
My friend Dean and I visited this place for breakfast. His family owns a diner up in Humboldt County and so they know their stuff. Imagine their clients. I won't speak for Dean but Qs bfast was reasonably priced and had some unique choices. My favorite was the French Toast which takes the baguette breakfast to a new level. French Toasted baguette! I normally prefer a gushy sloppy oozing egg french toast, but this crunchy version was great. Lil bacon on the side and a wonderful salty sweet concoction to wake you up.
- Pros: Great diorama tables
- Cons: not much
Great Beef Specials
by Chester08 at Citysearch
We usually go to Q twice a month. They always have great Beef specials and great new wines. The staff is always friendly and if their is a wait it moves pretty quickly.
- Pros: good food/good service
- Cons: parking
Nice place for burger / different choices of food
by kk9982 at Citysearch
Went to Q for my boyfriend's birthday on Friday 5/2. Luckily we went there around 6:30, found a parking right outside and got our seat right-a-way. Customers came after us got to wait a bit.
He ordered burger with garlic fries & root beer float, and I have ordered mussel & risotto & a glass of house Merlot. We both love this place! All food we have ordered were tasty! His burger was not come with a slice of cheese, but a big "cube" of cheese! You know, the cube was about 1 inch thick! Maybe that's why you won't think a $8-9 dollar burger from Q is overprice.
The price for the whole meal was about $50 after tips! With different choices of food (He loves burger and I don't) and reasonable price, we will go back again.
- Pros: food & food!
- Cons: parking. Have an early dinner and you could find your parking and seats.
