Funky American Comfort

  • Over 200 different Wines
  • Artsy décor
  • Great Prices

Voted "Best Comfort Food" in the Bay Area, and receiving too many rave reviews to mention, Q is an electrifying, "happening" neighborhood restaurant that has been called an "acid trip of an eatery." The décor is artsy and hip, the music rockin'. The menu is an eclectic mix of American comfort food with down home favorites such as pork spare ribs, fried chicken, fresh fish, and mac and cheesy, along with a variety of vegetarian items. Be sure to check out the creative and scrumptious daily specials.

Chef-Owner Andrew Gillen has selected over 200 wines for his "libations" list and carefully paired each of them with menu items at excellent prices. The staff is friendly and unpretentious. For a night with friends, dinner for two or brunch with the family, come check out this funky Inner-Richmond spot. Be ready for your taste buds to do some dancin' and your toes to do some tappin'.

Editorial Review for Q – by Miriam Wolf

The Scene
Original works by local artists, a table with a tree growing through it and whimsical tables embedded with games diners can play make Q the funkiest restaurant west of Divisadero. Hordes of casually dressed creative types show up each night for huge plates of comfort food.

The Food
From fried chicken to huevos rancheros, nearly every childhood favorite is represented on the menu. Mac and cheese is rich--and topped with tater tots. Meat loaf includes two tender slabs of ground meat grilled and propped up on a pile of mashed potatoes and gravy. "Smilin' Andy's" ribs are smoky, falling-off-the-bone tender and bathed in a complex barbecue sauce. They're accompanied by a pile of addictive garlic fries, spicy slaw and baked beans. Ample portions make it nearly impossible to leave hungry. Brunch is served every day of the week and features stacks of ethereally fluffy pancakes.

Went to Q for my boyfriend's birthday on Friday 5/2. Luckily we went there around 6:30, found a parking right outside and got our seat right-a-way. Customers came after us got to wait a bit. He ordered burger with garlic fries & root beer float, and I have ordered mussel & risotto & a glass of house Merlot. We both love this place! All food we have ordered were tasty! His burger was not come with a slice of cheese, but a big "cube" of cheese! You know, the cube was about 1 inch thick! Maybe that's why you won't think a $8-9 dollar burger from Q is overprice. The price for the whole meal was about $50 after tips! With different choices of food (He loves burger and I don't) and reasonable price, we will go back again.

Pros: food & food!

Cons: parking. Have an early dinner and you could find your parking and seats.

I go San Francisco often to visit family and always make sure I head to Q while I'm there. The food is delicious, very unique meals - the kind of food that is not on your average menu. The service is top notch and the atmosphere is eclectic to say the least! To sum it all up, this what makes San Francisco the artsy and beautiful city it is. You need to check it out, you will not be disappointed.
