Q

Owner

Voted "Best Comfort Food" in the Bay Area, and receiving too many rave reviews to mention, Q is an electrifying, "happening" neighborhood restaurant that has been called an "acid trip of an eatery." The decor is artsy and hip, the music rockin'. The menu is an eclectic mix of American comfort food with down home favorites such as pork spare ribs, fried chicken, fresh fish, and mac and cheesy, along with a variety of vegetarian items. Be sure to check out the creative and scrumptious daily specials.

Chef-Owner Andrew Gillen has selected over 200 wines for his "libations" list and carefully paired each of them with menu items at excellent prices. The staff is friendly and unpretentious. For a night with friends, dinner for two or brunch with the family, come check out this funky Inner-Richmond spot. Be ready for your taste buds to do some dancin' and your toes to do some tappin'.

Original works by local artists and whimsical tables embedded with games diners can play while they wait make Q one of the neighborhood's funkiest--and busiest--restaurants. The Southern comfort food favorites don't hurt this endearing eatery's popularity either. Hordes of casually dressed creative types show up each night for huge plates of fried chicken, mac and cheese (brilliantly topped with tater tots) and meatloaf, although there are always a few specials with a more West coast flavor like herb-crusted fish or seared beef medallions. Brunch brings much of the same--hearty fare like Benedicts and huevos rancheros, plus all the dinner-time faves as well.

My friend Dean and I visited this place for breakfast. His family owns a diner up in Humboldt County and so they know their stuff. Imagine their clients. I won't speak for Dean but Qs bfast was reasonably priced and had some unique choices. My favorite was the French Toast which takes the baguette breakfast to a new level. French Toasted baguette! I normally prefer a gushy sloppy oozing egg french toast, but this crunchy version was great. Lil bacon on the side and a wonderful salty sweet concoction to wake you up.

Wow! I go out to Clement street for 2 things: Pizza, and Mac & Cheese from Q. They have other great dishes here, but that one is by far my favorite. Definitely one to try if you're in the Richmond.

We usually go to Q twice a month. They always have great Beef specials and great new wines. The staff is always friendly and if their is a wait it moves pretty quickly.
