What People Are Saying About Burma Super Star Restaurant

Getting a table at this Inner Richmond standout may take an hour, but it's a wait many believe the food is worth. Once inside, asterisks on the menu highlight Burmese specialties, which you'll want to stick with for their exoticism and flavor (there are a few Chinese and Thai dishes as well). The revered salads contain 10 or more ingredients each, exemplified by the wonderfully textured tea leaf version, which features tomatoes, dried shrimp, fried garlic, sesame seeds and peanuts. A spicy samusa soup--perhaps the most well-known of the restaurant's signature dishes--overflows with fried…
Editor's Tips
- What to Drink:
- For a refreshing thirst-quencher, order the blend of beer, lemonade and ginger (available by the glass or pitcher). There are also Thai iced teas, fruit smoothies and wine.
- Know Before You Go:
- Reservations are not accepted. Arrive before 6pm to avoid lengthiest waits.
- The Extras:
- The restaurant caters private parties. Call for details.
- Know Before You Go:
- Reservations are not accepted and lines can always be expected, but if you leave your number, you can have a drink nearby and they'll call you when a table is ready.
great food

The food is really, really good, and they give you nice portions.
The only downfall is the wait on a Thursday night was 45minutes, but the good thing is they let you leave your number and go for a walk, and there is a cute cafe across the street that you can go chill out in.
- Pros: food, atmosphere, crowd
Now I get the line!

Even though I am not vegetarian, I just loved loved loved the vegetarian samusa soup here! It was delicious, and the little samusas in it were just the right little surprise in my soup, esp. since they were crispy at one point then soaked in soup.
The curry I had was good also but nothing completely stand out to me. Also the tea leaf salad, their signature dish, was something that I think I will like over time, but for the first time, it was a bit strong for me. Still, it is one of their most popular items so I know it's just me needing to adjust to the strong flavors. As I ate more and more to me it was less of a strong taste in my mouth.
Service is excellent, and if you ever come here for lunch and it's past 11:30am you can expect to have a bit of a wait. But you'll like your foot at least!
Amazing food, great service, get there by 5:30

Sought this place out with my sister, who'd been before and knew about getting there before 5:30. Absolutely true. We got right in, and watched a horde form outside our window table. The food was stupendous. Flavors and combinations unlike anything I've had anywhere. Service excellent and informative, friendly, energetic staff. The decor is gorgeous. Topnotch
Too much Hype and over rated

This experience was a downright waste of our time. Long wait of over an hour. Small and overly crowded place. Also noticed how close the Bathroom to the Kitchen. Disgusting. In addition to all of the above....they will not allow you to sit next to your Fiance. My Fiance and I were asked to sit across from each others instead of sitting next to one another. I could not believe it. We asked if other Patrons have complained and they told us no. for a moment I thought I was in a Talaban territory. We asked for the manger but were told the same thing. We have waited in the rain and cold for over an hour, paid for parking to be told that I could not sit next to my Fiance. We have decided to leave this place instead. SF has plenty of great places to eat and with great service. This is clearly not worth it. NOT RECOMMENDED At All.
- Pros: Not sure what is all the Hype about. Not a single good thing
- Cons: Long wait, crowded, bad and slow service, bathroom too close to kitchen
Not sure what the hype is about?

We ordered take out because we had heard that if you don't get there at 5:30, you'll be waiting for at least an hour. We arrived at 8:00 to pick up our food and there was an hour and a half wait. The staff was very friendly. They got our order right. We ordered the Mango beef, the beef was chewy and the sauce was too sugary. We also tried the Nan Gyi Dok, it was ok, a little slimey. Both dishes left us feeling greasy and wondering what all the hype is about? Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes, but we won't be returning to try it out again.
- Pros: good for large parties
- Cons: some dishes not that great
