Tips for Taiwan Restaurant

Nothing fancy, just great food at low prices. The Taiwan is not about fancy surroundings or plush comfort, but they do turn out some outstanding dishes. We have eaten here for decades and they are quite consistent. Highlights include Shanghai noodles, the various dumplings, a very competent if not unique hot and sour soup, always-perfect dry-fried string beans, and some of the least greasy and crispest onion pancakes I have had anywhere. The menu goes on and on, and I am sure there are many specialties that I should dig into that I have missed so far. Service is efficient and oddly friendly given the usual hectic pace of the place at busy times. Probably the worst aspect of eating here is trying to park during popular dining times.

Excellent Food at very cheap prices!!!. I come here about once a month and order the same thing here. For about $12-$15, you can try many different dishes and be filled for a group of 3. This is what I normally order, green onion pancakes $2, chinese doughnut $1, bowl of soymilk for doughnuts $1(add your own sugar), pork noodle soup $5, steamed pork dumplings $5, or shanghai noodles, $5. While you wait for a table, you can watch the chefs prepare their famous dumplings through the window. They are very crowded during lunch hour on weekends. They only make the chinese doughnuts during the morning, and weekend noon, so it only taste good when it is fresh out of the fryer.

Serving a unique version of Chinese food, this unobtrusive eatery offers Asian aficionadoes some intriguing options.. The Scene
If it weren't for the pink sign above Taiwan Restaurant, it would be easy to walk right past the inconspicuous storefront. But that would be a shame. Those who stop are in for a treat, even though the rosy '70s-style interior doesn't let on.

The Food
Midday, choose from an array of luncheon specials (including soup, rice, fruit and entree) or Northern Chinese dim sum. If you indulge in the latter, for a couple of bucks you can get dishes like fried yam cakes stuffed with meat and mushrooms or five-spices pork ears. Multicourse family dinners are only $8 to $9 per person, a smart way to fill your stomach without emptying your wallet.
