Melissa's Doesn't Sound Chinese, But.......
by tommy_d at Citysearch
You gotta order before you understand. I don't know who is working in the back, but I can tell you that no matter how you get your food it will be the best Chinese food you have ever had. It doesn't matter if it is take out, delivery, eat in, or whatever... this is the best. I've walked there and I've had it delivered. I've stopped going to Yet Wah and Ha's. And then, to beat it all, the prices just beat everything else. You can not get better food anywhere for this price. The place is really plain in appearance and that's just fine by me. I'd take Pepsi in a paper cup if the food tasted this good. Keep it up folks. This is great!!!!!!
- Pros: FOOD!!! PRICE!!!
- Cons: What? You Got Something Wrong?
Try these and you will always want more

Best $5 lunch in town!
by sanfrancitizen at Citysearch
You gotta check out Melisa's lunch special: Hot & Sour Soup, 1 Drum of Heaven (if you don't know, now you know!), and white or brown rice with a huge variety of entrees to choose from. Vegetable plates start at $4.25, Chicken. Pork and Beef from $5.25, Seafood is the most at (gasp) $6.25! And it's only slightly more expensive at night, but the portions make up the price difference...not to worry, the lunch special will fill you up just fine! Good hot & sour and wor wonton, fast friendly service, fresh veggies and good shrooms...you must go find out about those heavenly drums!
- Pros: Bang for your buck, Fresh
It's legitimate Chinese grubbin'...
by porchmoney24 at Citysearch
Chinese food addicts, and you're most likely one if you're reading this review, often find themselves entering unknown territories when trying a new restaurant. But Melisa's offers a legitimately good selection of fresh, tasty Chinese food at a pretty good price. And that's no jive.
IT IS almost always empty, but be assured almost anything you order will include a very good sauce, fresh vegtables and REAL, not mystery, meat. To me, knowing what you're throwing down your throat vastly outweighs ambience.
If you live in the Inner Richmond and want the area's least sketchy Chinese food joint to stay open, make sure to patronize Melisa's. I'm not quite sure how it manages to stay open with the seeming lack of business.
And, she's right. It's probably better than 90% of the take-out joints you'll find in Chinatown.
- Pros: fresh, tasty food, good price, rapid delivery
- Cons: ambience
great take out, eat in eh...

this is a solid place for takeout in the neighborhood of possibly greasy/sketchy alternatives. decent prices and good quality, worth a try, at least for locals
