You'll Feel At HOME at Mama-Sans. You HAVE to try this place. We've been going there for 4 years now, and every time we walk in it's like we're visiting family - but in a good way. We get a big greeting from Mama, who is the hostess, waitress, and chatty heart of the restaurant - and her husband, who is the chef, occasional waiter, and also can be quite chatty. It's a very relaxing and warm place to spend an evening enjoying some excellent sushi. PLUS, it's all super CHEAP! We haven't found any other place - anywhere - that even comes close to the price, the quality, or the at home atmosphere. And, unlike the other trendy sushi spots, at Mama-San you almost never have to wait for a table - and you know you're supporting a truly family owned and operated establishment - a rare thing in this city.

Mama San is Wonderful!. Mama San is wonderful! The owner is there everynight pouring her whole heart into her business. The price is right and it is a great place for a group of friends who don't want to spend a lot of money!

Oh So Good, You Must Try to Believe. Ive discovered Mama San and now Im hooked! This place may be small but its cheap and clean, and did I mention oh so good? I enjoy watching the Sushi chef preparing his perfectly generously sliced sashimi in the open kitchen. For high quality sushi at a low price served by the friendliest staff, try Mama San. The only downfall is its size but who cares if you are bringing less than 7 friends? Mama San has easily become my favorite restaurant and it should be yours too!

Just bad.... I almost never like to say bad things about mom 'n pop operations, but this place is just bad. We were reticent to eat the sushi they served up as it looked about a week old and was cut wrong and too stringy. The 'donburi' that we ordered as well was little better....it was at least cooked and probably safe.

One of SF's Best Kept Secrets. One of SF's best kept secrets... the place is small but clean ... I wouldn't go with a group larger than eight and not much for decor... but the food is AMAZING... and the prices are unbelievably low (four of us stuffed ourselves for about 50$)... the sushi is fresh and you can watch everything being prepared in the open kitchen... this is definately a place to go if you are on a budget but don't want to sacrafice quality...
