Good food, good service.
A lady at the Legion of Honor recommended this as her neighbourhood restaurant. I had no other information and, consequently, no particular expectations.
The food was great and imaginitive, matching anything that I've had in Italy on a large number of trips. The ingredients were fresh and of high quality. The service was both attentive and prompt.
Parking was no worse than anywhere else in SF.
Great atmosphere, yummy comfort food, friendly service. I recently discovered this place and if I need an Italian fix there is no where else I would go. For starters, the atmosphere is warm and friendly and the service is attentive. The food is consistently delicious and and always enough of it. I order the steak pretty regularily and the tiramisu is some of the best I've had. I love this place because it's good for any occassion. I've gone with friends, on a date and with large groups and it's been fun and a great experience every time. One of the best parts is that even on a busy Friday or Saturday night, they always manage to find a spot for you. All in all, great vibe, solid food, well priced, friendly service. You can't go wrong.
De-lish. Well this little spot in the Richmond was definitly the spot!! This was dinning without all the flash housemade bread that was served warm and the wine list not too pricy. The decor was romantic; dimm lighting, candles all over the place very sensual...(hint hint fellas if you are looking for a valentine's spot). Service was warm but not overwhelming and we never felt rush during the busy night. My only problem was the parking, but definitly worth the hassle.
Fabulous Service, Fabulous food. This is a sparkling jem of a place, wonderful atmosphere, good music, good food. Not at all snooty just comfortable and fun!
Mediocre food, LONG waits, Poor Service.
I've been here twice and will never, ever go back.
The first time was a passable experience in 2004. I don't recall too many details, but I do remember the important parts: We found parking nearby in less than 15 minutes (our second attempt at this place failed, and we gave up and got pizza because of the parking), we got lucky again and got a great seat that we didn't have to wait an hour outside for, our waiter didn't disappear for endless blocks of geologic time, and the food was not bad. I do remember thinking it could have been better and should have been more for what we paid.
Valentine's Day last year (2006) though was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had, period. No amount of wine, ambience, and good company will help you at this restaurant.
1) Let's start with parking: There isn't any (hey it's SF). Unless you take a cab or the MUNI 38, you'll be funneled by the staff to the Kaiser Permanente parking lot 2 blocks away, which is always closed.
2) The service, in a word, stinks - if you're not Italian. If you're Italian, you have friends for life at this place, but god help you if you're not. Even with a reservation, you'll wait an extra 45-60 minutes near the bar and rest room waiting for an open seat. Once the mostly-male wait staff stops chatting endlessly with "family" or flirting with someone's date and remembers you're there, you'll wait endlessly again at your table in the dark to actually be served. I'm not exagerating: We watched as many other people experienced the same level of dis-service.
3) The food, in a word, stinks. For Valentine$ you'll pre-pay $70+ each for very small portions of mushy pasta or shoe-leather "filet mignon" in a thin sauce. Again, I'm not exagerating - I've broiled better steaks at home.
This place isn't worth your time or money. If you want excellent Italian food and great service, take a cab to Trattoria Contadina in North Beach. We've been there 4 times and they never fail to please.
What a nice surprise!. I feel like a just discovered a little secret! i have walked by a million times and just gave it a try this weekend. The food is so good, I loved the gnocchi gorgonzola. It just not a pretentious place and neither is the food. My girlfriends and i hung out for a while and the staff was so inviting (not pushing us out as soon as we were done). We had a great time and will be back for sure.
Style over substance. The ambiance is quite nice and I was intrigued upon entering, but Bella did not live up to expectations. The food took 1 hour and 15 minutes to come out and was pretty flat. It wasn't that the food was bad, but it just wasn't good. The portions small to medium but enough to fill up a person with a medium appetite. The place is crowded and the waiters bumped into my girlfriend's seat on numerous occaisions which was rather annoying. The worst part is that my friend ordered the seafood and ended up getting sick on the way home (glad I stopped for gas just before!). I won't be going back for overpriced food (based on taste) that I have to wait forever for.
An intimate Richmond trattoria featuring traditional Italian cuisine..
The centerpiece of this cozy dining room features a large mural of Venice. Menu selections include penne al forno draped in melted mozzarella and tangy tomato sauce, wild boar tenderloin in a red-wine sauce, and pancetta-wrapped monkfish or boneless quail stuffed with Italian sausages and topped with porcini mushrooms. Nightly specials are also available.
How can you keep getting better?. What is it with this place? It never seems to dissapoint. My wife and I had one of the best meals ever! It took us back to our honeymoon in Tuscany. The service is so warm and sincere. The food seems to be getting even better. We both had the special fish and shared a pasta. The fish was cooked to perfection and the pasta was sauced perfectly. Nothing was rushed even though the place was absolutly jammed and yet we still felt as we were the only people there. Bella can do no wrong in our book!
Il nome deve essere BRUTTA!. Lets see, first we called in to make sure they were open and they said they were open until 9:30..so we made a reservation. Got there at 8:55 and the hostess said they were closed. When we mentioned we had called beforehand, she then checked with the server to see if he was willing to take another table. Only if he said no, I wouldn't be writing this review. Within 10 mintues of sitting, we put in our appetizer and entree order. First course was great. As we were 20 minutes into our appetizer, our server decided to tell us that both dishes were not available. I will never pay $15 for Chef Boyardee pasta again. Only if he would have said no..
