This Lower Haight "lounge" is ridiculously cheap to rent for private parties, and staffed and decorated accordingly.. It's rare that decorators really nail an ambiance perfectly, and even rarer that what they were apparently going for was "awkward middle school dance": a room full folding metal chairs, plastic cups and party supplies from the corner store, and a brightly-lit little hardwood dance floor area. Throw in that the carpeting goes halfway up the wall in one spot for no reason and that the bar's tended by old school Fillmore pimp-types and you've got a winner. Peacock Lounge is probably the cheapest place in the city to throw a private party--$200 and no bar guarantee--though the bouncers are known to let in random passersby to boost bar sales, so there's that.…
