Excuse me? How dare you diss my
review? Were you there with me?? Did you know about this little matter in 1967?
October 2, 1967
A midnight police raid takes place at Huckleberry's for Runaways. Arrested in the raid are co-director Barbara Brachman and Burgie Oberhammer, the House Manager, as well as all of the youth sleeping in Huckleberry's facility that evening. Co-director Larry Beggs is arrested the following day.
Ask folks who lived around there at the time what Huckleberry's was considered. "A glorified cathouse". I am not lying, WHY would I lie all these years later? To what end? Am simply trying to warn other young people who might not get away from there as easily as I did. STILL GETS A ONE STAR RATING from me.
First review misrepresented Huckleberry House and Rev. Beggs. Huckleberry House, led by Rev. Larry Beggs in 1968, was certainly not a "glorified cathouse." Whoever wrote that must have a long-standing gripe against Rev. Beggs, for some reason, to say something so awful, untrue, and misrepresentative. I knew Larry ("Ed") Beggs as member of a teen rap group he led at Marin Open House, in San Rafael. Rev. Beggs was a great help to me. I’ll always remember him for his caring, competent guidance and counsel, and for being the positive role model he was for me.
