Editorial Review for Edo Salon – by Erin Cullerton
In Short
Nestled among the Lower Haight's infamous row of hip hair salons, this trendy spot's corner location is irresistibly chic and inviting. With its tall, elegant mirrors, comfy modern furniture and low-key gallery shows, it's one of the city's swankier places to get your locks chopped. The crew of stylists offers scissor and razor cuts, multitonal highlights and color, special event updo styles and human hair extensions. Onsite services for photo shoots and weddings are also available.

I have had the pleasure of visiting this salon for more than two years now. My stylist is the LOVELY rosette. She is a master with the shears, creating lovely feminine shapes with a bit of edge. I am hopeless with hair and generally just want to tie it back with a rubberband and pretend it doesn't exist, but Rosette makes me feel like my hair is BEAUTIFUL. She is especially great at LAYERING- she can vary the layering to suit your tastes and wishes. I walk out of the salon looking very "Valley of the Dolls", a look that suits both my look and lifestyle. I was at a bar after a recent cut and actually had a girl take a picture of me with their cell phone so she could have a stylist replicate it. I'd also like to mention something here about the experience that is visiting Edo. Just being in the the space feels good. Often you'll be greeted by one of their gorgeous receptionists offering green tea or mineral water. There is a healthy stack of magazines for color and cut inspiration. The art is always changing and lends the room a slightly different mood each time. I really have enjoyed my experiences at this salon and suggest a visit to it for anyone seeking a beautiful haircut.

I do not usually take the time to write bad reviews - but this was such an awful experience, I cannot let other women make the same mistake. I asked for some depth to my light blond hair and I even offered magazine pictures that showed the slightly darker blond I was looking for. I walked out with bright red hair, similar to Ronald McDonald - no joke. I went back and the manager over saw the "fix" and I walked out with black hair to cover up the red. Their suggestion was to spend time in the sun and it would lighten up. I was devastated. I had to go to another salon, have my hair stripped of color and redyed (by the way, Sara at Acabello is AMAZING - she saved my hair and gave me the ability to leave the house again!!!) Edo was unapologetic and even argumentative over my experience. Do yourself a favor and AVOID this salon at all cost.
Pros: NONE
Cons: Skill Level, Color Stains all over skin and clothes, horrible color and service.
