Very pleased

Love this place, have had a tattoo by Madeline and one by Eric. Have my next one planned and I wouldn't go anywhere else.. Clean, friendly and professional. As to the other comments about being pricey.... you get what you pay for.

Extemely knowledgable staff, clean environment, good selection of jewelry.

I recently visited Mom's on Haight street to get a piercing. I've been wanting a new peircing for some time but I couldn't decide on what to get pierced. I knew I wanted something a little different. Gary, the piercer, took some time to explain some different piercings to me. What the piercing was, the healing time, how it would look. He was very knowledgable and extremely helpful. In the end we I decided on a Daith piercing. This is a cartiledge piercing on the ear and rather hard to explain but it's really cool. I filled out the paperwork and payed my fees, which were very reasonable. Now the moment of truth. I was very nervous, as I always am, but Gary was very calming. He got me laughing while he was prepping me and then was so fast with the piercing that it was over in moments. I looked in the mirror and was so happy with my new piercing that I almost hugged my piercer. I didn't instead I gave him a tip. Gary then explained in great detail exactly how to take care of my new piercing and told me that if I had any questions about the piercing to come in anytime. Over all it was a great expierience and I love my new piercing.

  • Pros: Clean shop, knowledgable staff
  • Cons: Music was almost to loud to hear over

Good experience

I got a tattoo at Mom's and everything went smoothly. I chose it because they have a great reputation, and are registered with the national board of tattoo artists so they are very clean and checked out regularly (I did a lot of online research to make sure the place I went to was legit, and all sources pointed me to Mom's). The people working were friendly and didn't rush me, and they weren't condescending at all about my tatoo choice (even though it was kinda girly). Also, my tattoo artist had the patience to stencil on and then wipe off my tattoo about 5 times to make sure the size and placement was right. It was a little expensive for what it was, but it's worth it to go to a decent place and make sure everything is up to code. The people here seem to know what they are doing. I would recommend Mom's.

  • Pros: clean, skillful artists, fairly friendly
  • Cons: expensive

Clean facility, bad service. Do NOT see Gary!

by baguettefrenzy at Citysearch

I beg to differ with the other reviews. Maybe it was just my piercer, but he was incredibly rude and condescending. Do NOT go to Gary. I went in just to have my piercing re-opened since it closed up. The whole procedure was under 2 minutes, but here's a rundown of the conversation:

Me: Oh, do you have the ring?

Gary (harshly): Of course I do, what do you think?

Me (thrown back. I just didn't see it): Oh, um..ok

*held my friend's hand since I'm a squeemish with needles. Gary's annoyed.*

Gary: Oh, the hole shrunk a bit.

Me: Does that mean we need a needle?

Gary: Does it look like I have a needle in my hand?? I'm just putting the ball in, is that okay with you?

Me: Sorry, I'm just a little squeemish with needles..

Gary (condescendingly): No one who get's piercings is afraid of needles. Why else would you get it done??

*statement continued into a lecture. friend and i exchanged confused/annoyed looks."

Gary (sarcastically): So I can tell your friend hates me. Whatever..

Needless to say, I grabbed my bag, looked at the tip jar, looked at him, and left.

I'm seriously confused why he was so upset. So I flinched a bit, it's not like I was being difficult or throwing a fit. If anything, I have a sense of humor about my nerves, as do all the other piercers I've seen before. I almost felt like I was being judged for being too "conventional". I've heard of places that having the "piercing attitude" and I defintely felt like this was him.

  • Pros: Clean
  • Cons: Rude staff member. "Piercing attitude" from desk

Affordable, clean, and very friendly staff. Went there with a friend to get pierced yesterday, did not experience any of the normal "piercing studio attitude". Highly reccomend.
