Citysearch Editorial Review. If you live in San Francisco for long enough, you have to find a bar for every major neighborhood. The Gold Cane has an inviting, warm vibe seven days a week for your Upper Haight boozing needs. There's nothing special about the bar, but the staff is uber-friendly, the regulars mind their own and the smoking patio out back is one of a kind, so perhaps there is. Family owned and operated, since 1926 (after a move two doors down in the mid 70’s) the Gold Cane defies dive bar mandates of a hip crowd and tons of 'tude by extending its arms to neighbors and visitors alike.
