The Scene
Beer tap handles are considered works of art here. Hundreds of them line the walls in decoration and dozens more stand behind the bar waiting for a pull from the knowledgeable bartenders. A marquee hangs in the center of the room listing the ever-changing selection of international ales and lagers. Stuffed deer heads and hundreds of band stickers round out the decor. The noise level can be high at times. There is a semi-private room in the back for those trying to escape.
The Draw
One doesn't have to be a beer enthusiast to hang out here, but it helps. The crowd ranges from bike-messenger types to bartenders from other pubs. The rock-and-roll vibe is reflected in the jukebox. There's a lone TV hanging behind the bar, but conversation and laughter are the chief forms of entertainment.

Perhaps the best place to get beer anywhere! The beer selection is outstanding, with a very large selection of Belgium beers. As a bonus, you can grab a sausage next door at Rosemunde, and bring it to Toronado!

The first time I walked into this place was about 10 years ago. From the minute I walked in I actually considered moving from Marin into the city. The place is perfect for a true beer lover. Porters, stouts, ale, hefs - not just selection, but a well thought out selection. The staff knows their sh(t, and I have learned a lot about beer just from being there. Long live the Toronado!!!!

Know Before You Go:
Rosamunde, the "ultimate sausage destination" is next door, open until 10pm. Menus are available here and patrons are encouraged to bring a bratwurst back to the bar.
Look Good:
Chimay is considered a rarity at other bars, but here, it's just the tip of the iceberg. Ask the bartender for a complete list of fine Belgian beers.
Save Money:
Every day (11:30am-6pm) all drafts are discounted by $1.
The Extras:
Try the warm mead: The spiced honey-based brew will warm you up on a cold evening.
