Editorial Review for Indian Oven – by Joanna Currier

In Short
With a reputation built on strong word-of-mouth and several local awards, this slightly upscale, white-tablecloth restaurant reigns as the most sought-after Northern Indian cuisine in the Haight district. Regulars favor the tandoori -- or clay oven -- dishes which feature bubbling, baked, marinated chicken, lamb and seafood. Spicy curries, ample vegetarian options and plentiful naan keep lines out the door, despite slightly higher prices than surrounding Indian restaurants.

This place is roomy, friendly, and attentive. Overall, the food was very good. I had the scrumptious Saag Aloo with some naan and rice. The spot is handicap accessible... sorta. When I went there was a huge booth seat blocking the front door. They moved it right away as soon as they saw that I was approaching with my chair; however, if that seat had been occupied for the way in and leaving... it would have been a big hassle for those seated at that spot. There is no handicap accessbile way to the upstairs portion of the restaurant unless you have a chaperone willing to assist in pulling you up and and slowly lowering you down the tiny steps. Handicap accessibility is somewhat lacking but the staff makes themselves pleasantly available to assist with finding you a spot.

This place gets pretty busy and it's for a good reason - the food is excellent and the prices are incredible. The restaurant is small, but people get seated quickly. We made a reservation and got taken upstairs to this little area with really comfortable chairs. We had a party of six and they easily accommodated us. The service was great and we wouldn't go anywhere else in the Bay Area for Indian food after eating here!

Pros: Delicious food and really good prices

Cons: no cons - this is a great place!
