They destroyed all of the paintings!.
They painted over all of the paintings with some awful gold paint! I just heard the word from my girlfriend who went there today. She was so sick she couldn't stay. It seems like some idiot bought the place and remodeled it to look like I don't know what, like some room painted with automobile gold paint. I hadn't gone there for awhile and I don't think I'll be going there again.

Beer Good - Food Bad.
How can anyone eat here, unless of course they are so drunk from the delicious beer that they don't realize the 40 minute wait for food or the poor quality and crazy high prices.
I like the beer, not love but a strong like. No one can complain too much about the quality or selection of on-site brew.
On the other hand, how do you mess up a salad so much that even after 2 send backs it is still inedible?
We ordered a sandwich that was mediocre at best and a salad that might be the worst one ever served in San Francisco. The tab for these 2 items (not including beer) was almost $40. After we finished our pints we walked down the road and got a few slices.
Go for the beer - eat elsewhere

Best Brewpub in the Haight.
I like this place a lot. It's always warm when the wind is blowing and it's one of the few places where you can get a burger and a glass of cava. The wait staff are efficient and always treat the solo diner very well. Also, they have very good beer - have a glass or three while you hang out at the bar.

Terrible sausage, undercooked meat. . .but good beer..
I'm sorry but the food was terrible. My wife and I have been to Magnolia's several times, and it's been inconsistent at best. The pork sandwich was great, but the steak sandwich was rare, undercooked and awful. A week later we decided to try the lamb sausage and the buffalo sausage with similar results. The lamb sausage was horrific, served like a twirled doggie doo, and that?s about what it tasted like. . .vinegar, fleshy, and undercooked. The buffalo sausage wasn?t cooked thoroughly and it was like eating uncooked hamburger. . .yuk. It was so bad that I hope we don?t get sick. Sorry for the bad review.

The Haight-Ashbury institution has gone from hippie to hip, and from a laid-back burger and brew joint to an ambitious gastropub..
Magnolia has shed its pathcouli-oiled past for a modern/retro aesthetic and an ambitious gastropub menu. Turn-of-the-century fixtures and antique tchotchkes accent a dark, minimalist interior, pew-like booth seats and a communal table with great views of the always lively Haight-Masonic intersection. The attentive waitstaff serve up locavoracious man-foodie fare like fried sausages, ribs and pulled pork sandwiches along with some lighter fare, and the beloved (and well-priced) mirco-beers brewed in Magnolia's basement are still on tap, although the setup is more conducive to table-dining than bar-boozing.

A Great Restaurant No More.
This used to be a fabulous place to go for a burger and a beer. They recently (sometime between 4/20/08 and 5/31/08) renovated and I have to say it would have been better if the place had burnt to the ground.
They painted over all of the wonderful murals on the walls with some awful gold paint. They also changed the menu and generally destroyed the atmosphere.
My wife and I ate there this last weekend and we were disgusted. What used to be a great hamburger is now a soggy disgusting mess. My wife ate the polenta and she was sick all the following day.
Sadly, we used to be regular customers. Now we will never go back.
Unless you're just looking for a quick pint in the upper haight, don't go here.
Shame on you for destroying such a wonderful place.

Best Hand Crafted Beer.
Great place to have lunch and a beer. the food is wonderful and the hand crafted beer is top notch. Every trip I take to SF has Magnolias in it.

Excellent Beer and Atmosphere - but bad service.
Excellent beer and atmosphere. Magnolia's seems to fit perfectly in the Haight neigborhood with a large variety of beer which comes complete with lots of Grateful Dead music. Unfortunately, the slow service destroys what would otherwise be an excellent experience.

What used to be good, now is NOT.
I've been living on Haight Street for almost a year now and as local eat at Magnolias two to three times a week. Over the past year, though their beers and ambience are great, it has gone down. Their food is no longer what it used to be and just recently their service has gone down to even less than one star. I would recomend you look for another brewery or pub. Save yourself the money, buy a beer. But don expect good service or food.

Must stop for beer geeks.
Great local pub feel, and unbelievable selection of real ale. 5 cask conditioned and 8 draughts were on when we were in, didn't make it through all of them, but had fun trying. Our waitress Katie was wonderful, very friendly to these out of towners, and helpful with selections. One of those places that you just have to experience. Highly recommended.
