What People Are Saying About Crepes On Cole

In Short – Palm pilot-toting locals munch on salads, sandwiches, pancakes, omelettes and -- of course -- crepes at this casual, bright corner eatery. Food is more reliable than innovative, although portions are generous and service is cheerful. Walls are decorated with rotating artwork, and wooden tables sit beneath a bright green ceiling. Tall paned windows offer unobstructed views of passing strollers, and a smattering of outdoor tables allow patrons to dine with their canine. –

A strand of hair on our food!

by foodielover at Citysearch

First trip to this crepery which serves other items on the menu besides crepe. The Eggs Benedict was very good, came with unseasoned cottage fries (chunks of potatoes). The Cole Valley crepe came as a large crepe folded over into a quarter filled w/cheese, tomato pesto sauce, ample avocado, mushrooms & spinach & the cottage potatoes. Overall, the food was ok, but we probably wouldn't be going back. At the end of the meal, a strand of long blond hair was hanging from the potatoes (we're brunette, as was the server who brought the food to our table), thus spoiling our appetites. The latte was wonderful. It's evidently a popular place in the Cole Valley neighborhood for couples, didn't see any kids. We didn't complain about the hair to management. Seriously, what would they do about it anyways? All you can do is pray you don't get sick. They're cash only.

  • Pros: Large area for dining, good Eggs Benedict
  • Cons: Parking, cash only, hair in our food

Sometimes a good value, oftentimes horrible

by chaunceymo at Citysearch

I live nearby, and have been several times before I finally gave up on it. A couple times the food was tasty and not very expensive, and the service was fine and prompt. The last few times I went the food was poor: one time the crepe I ordered was massively overcooked, the other time the eggs I ordered were undercooked and inedible.

The last straw was when I went and they totally botched our order. We were in a group of four, two got their orders immediately, the other two of us (who ordered similar items) didn't. We complained, the waitress glanced back into the kitchen and said ours would be right up. Ten minutes later there was still no sign, the waitress again claimed it would be right up. We asked to speak to the owner, who finally admitted that the order had never made it into the kitchen, and we had been blatantly lied to. He then made us wait another five minutes before he deigned to give us a refund, and refused to give a refund on the coffee that we had barely touched while waiting for the nonexistent food. Finally he made a big scene about how it wasn't his fault and tried to make us feel guilty for complaining.

Any of the other restaurants in the area is a better choice. We had previously used this as a backup spot for brunch if Zazie was too busy, but never will again.

  • Pros: sometimes good food for the cost
  • Cons: aggressively unpleasant servers and owner, generally shoddy cooking

Great food, bad service once

by dtward at Citysearch

This place has fantastic food and is really great for brunch, breakfast, or lunch. Almost every time I have had great food, nice service, and a friendly staff.

The last time I went was a different story though. This past sunday the two waitresses were incredibly rude. My girlfriend's mom's order was incorrect and they spent a couple minutes arguing about it with her. That's just not good customer service.

Overall though the place is great, I'll be going back many times.

  • Pros: great food, fun atmosphere
  • Cons: hard to park, impatient waitresses

I've had better

by issiepooh at Citysearch

i agree with another post saying that crepes are better in france--or hell, even the crepevine. this place has homefries that have yucky seasonings. the dessert crepes suck. i've been here at least 5 times, and it is always about the same. it's not an expensive place, yet it feels overpriced because of the food quality.

  • Pros: cozy
  • Cons: so-so food, dirty
