Aw, forget that previous bozo's lukewarm insulting review. You want bright lights, clean shining fake floors, go someplace else, like a hospital cafeteria. You want coffee with soul and comfy grunginess? This is it! I got to know the new year 2000 Haight, years after being a weekend visitor there in the hippie heyday of 1966 -'69.One feature that's a breath of fresh coffee is the Cafe International. They support creativity in artwork, song, poetry and music. Check out their mural. Their hot and cold coffee drinks are the greatest. Come get your rich liquid steaming dark delights here. Keeping a place like this going is no easy task, but they're still here and thriving. There's open mics on Fridays hosted by Gordon Tyler. Richard Rice's Hoot nights happen all year, one Saturday each month. Parking is nearly non-existent. Try not to drive - save money for more of those flower-shaped frosted butter cookies. I suggest you leave your car at a nice well-lit place and Muni to the Cafe. The Haight's got the best record and clothes stores. Try Rasputin's near the McDonald's. The 2nd hand clothes stores are real fun. Buffalo Exchange, Aardvark's Odd Ark and more... Be ready for panhandlers. It's the Haight - an interesting neighborhood. 'San Francisco is a place where people end up'. Good and bad ones. It's the Haight. But don't be discouraged; Get the best-tasting nutritious food, juices and coffee while doing your part to keep this great place alive & well. The Cafe International: It's a warm friendly breeze of coffee-scented hospitality.
