Tips for Squat & Gobble Cafe

March 18, 2007

Lower Haight outpost of popular eatery pleases diners all day and night with generous crepes, omelets, and salads.. In Short
Neighborhood locals catch up over breakfast, lunch, and dinner at sidewalk tables out front, while inside a brasserie feel dominates the light-filled space. Menus are written in bold, colorful letters on the massive chalkboards above the counter area. Lighter fare includes soups, salads and a selection of bagel sandwiches, while sweet and savory crepes, like the Sweet As Apple and the Chicken Divan, satisfy bigger appetites, as do hearty pastas.

Great breakfast place. I've been to Squat & Gobble twice and so far the foods and service is good. I like the breakfast selections and the dessert crepes look awesome (althogh I haven't try it). Portion is pretty big, and my fav thing is the fresh squeezed OJ. The only setback, parking is sometimes hard.

Tasty crepes. Although the crepes at Squat & Gobble don't much resemble crepes you'll find in France, they are tasty nevertheless. In fact, you could probably argue they're better than a lot of the crepes you'll find abroad. The selection is great & there are plenty of options for vegetarians. Portion sizes are definitely ample. I wouldn't recommend going here for the ambiance- the decor, etc. is pretty bare-bones. But, for a quick, casual meal, this place is great.

Great variety of quality food. I have eaten there at least a dozen times over the past month and am not bored yet, since the selection is huge and everything on it is good no matter if it's breakfast, lunch or dinner. Food is very innovative with a good mix of healthy ingredients and always tastes very fresh. Typical SF variety from French to Mexican to Chinese to American food. Service is quick and friendly and ambience is very good with great background music. Prices are very good considering the quality and quantity of food, especially if you skip the drink and get the free lemon flavored water.

Why settle for IHOP?. Probably one of the best places to go for brunch on any given weekend. An Amazon.com selection of crepes & other breakfast items but at Wal-Mart prices. Try the mediterranean or the pesto chicken crepes.
