I Wanted to Love and Support This Local Restaurant – Having a restaurant like this in the neighborhood should be a really great thing. I always support all the local businesses where I live. For years we sent our friends and guests to this place because after a little wine together at the house we could just walk over and have a (usually) delicious and reasonably priced dinner. The early specials were superb. We sent them alot of business. The only negative comment we ever heard was that the service was indifferent and often snotty. One night we sent guests there who were just finishing an extended honeymoon before going back to Australia. They were at the end of their money and were really tight. I suggested they make the earlybird special and assured them they could afford it. They showed up 10 minutes early for their reservation but were told that there was a walk in with about 8 people and their table had been given away. They were directed to wait outside under the awning in the rain. About 30 minutes later when they were seated they were informed they had missed the early bird special. They asked me how I could recommend such a place? Bad enough... but when I called the owner and told him about the situation he said he had no regrets and did not feel in the least badly. I was incredulous. We have never gone there again and we have directed people away from there. Just not worth the grief. Don't want to thicken the wallets of those with no sense of right or wrong. All I can think is that decision has cost them more than they know.

Spent a romantic evening with my partner and celebrated a wonderful milestone for us. The food is good and they sometimes have nice music playing in the background. Nice soft jazz music if you're into that type of music. Candle lit tables, very romantic and always excellent service. It's a little pricey, but well worth the money.

not a great recommendation!! – As tourists to this fabulous city we were expecting great things from this restaurant as it was recommended to us by locals and our guide book. However we were bitterly disappointed with the food as it was luke-warm by the time it reached our table, on tasting, there was nothing, no flavour, and it felt that it was just fish and 2 veg. The restaurant was not that busy with about 15 - 20 dining, but the service was slow, we knew that already from reading reviews etc but the waitress was unattentive and other diners complained and she just said it was not a fast food joint!

We would not come back to this 'French Restaurant', and not sure why people should waste good hard earned cash here!

Great seafood, very reasonably priced, great customer service – Great seafood dishes and very reasonable prices. Unlike other reviews, the service was wonderful and our waitress was very attentive and engaging. Crabcakes lived up to their reputation. Scallops were perfectly cooked and served in a very tasty mussel broth. Also tried a pork chop which was brined. Very good. Would definitely visit again when in San Francisco the next time.

Delicious. – Just tried it out and the food was amazing. Everything was light, flavorful and fresh. We ordered way too much food but managed to eat everything because it was just too good. The fish was moist, the mashed potatoes smooth and the chicken and steak are not to be overlooked at this seafood restaurant. The service was attentive and gave very good recommendations. And with all the candles, it's a great low-key place for a date.

Horrifying Customer Service – I/We will never go back to this place again. After this second chance, we were treated with blatant rudeness and neglect again, seen by all. Took 1 1/2 (1 and a half hours) to get our meal. My utensils were whisked away I was left with a soup spoon to eat a large bowl of steamed mussels. Why? The atmosphere looks great from the window and the food is okay, if you still have an appetite.

Good food ,good service ,I will go back ! – I took my date to Alamo Square on saturday evening and despite a few bad reviews, we both really enjoyed the food and the very spirited server. Dining in San Francisco can be a great experience ... until the bill comes ! Dinner at Alamo was very affordable, food prepared with fresh ingredients, just simple and pleasurable ! If you are in a hurry, impatient or bitchy ... stay home and think about those who are starving !

Oh did I mention the great choice of music, mix of French and tango

Classic, European dining experience – Favorite place on Fillmore Street! Came from NYC and found a gem! We've eaten here a few times and never had a dish we didn't enjoy. The service isn't the best (can be slow); however, it gives you more time to enjoy your delicious food, company and vino. Strongly recommend the risotto appetizer, bouillabaisse, scallops, and specials were very tasty! Highly recommend even if you don't live in the neighborhood. All around great restaurant.

Best local food-lover jewel, still a relative secret – Great restaurant hidden away from San Francisco city center... when we arrived on Tuesday March 13th, there was only one waiter on service..no problem .. he sat us down with a smile and a "I am solo tonight -please excuse the service - will try to make it alright"... Great - he is humble! Now onto the food we had crab cakes, escargot & scallops for starters - all delicious - not under or over cooked. Next for main course we had the New york steak medium rare (yes they do non-seafood items), salmon (the days special) and grilled trout with a bearnaise sauce. All was cooked to perfection and arrived in a timely manner (surprising since the waiter was single handed tonight) - all of this washed down with some very reasonably priced chardonnay. We even had place left for a little dessert which was as equally good as the previous courses. Value for money - excellent, food quality 9.5/10, ambiance - great fun to visit a local SanFrancisco hidden gem.

Yummy! Great deal! – My boyfriend and I celebrated his birthday here and were not disappointed. We're both grad students and faced the challenge of finding a "nice" restaurant on a budget -- this was it! Highlights included friendly service, mix-and-match fish/prep/sauce (we ordered wild salmon with beurre blanc and red snapper with bernaise), and a touch that is gracious and French -- from the duck confit salad to the chef's complimentary amusee bouche, a delicious mushroom potage.

PLUSES: 1) called ahead to say we'd be late and they offered to give us a 15 m. grace period, 2) found parking on a Fri night within 5 minutes, 3) a cozy neighborhood bistro feel and a diverse crowd, 3) prompt seating and ordering (almost too prompt -- could've used a few more minutes with the menu), 4) affordable French wines by the glass and beautifully prepared, delicious, fresh, ample seafood entrees for $13.50.

MINUSES: 1) the service was uneven -- sometimes too fast and sometimes just a tad too slow, 2) the tables are very small, we kept almost knocking our wineglasses over, 3) we came here on the advice of a friend, who talked up the "crazy French owner guy". I was looking forward to said CFOG, but he was not in evidence.
