Editorial Review for Open Mind Music – by Kim Cooper
The Scene
It may be a little off the beaten track, but DJs and hard-core vinyl fiends don't seem to have trouble finding this spacious shop with walls lined with groovy rarities. The front of the store is always hopping, with customers quizzing the staff on new releases, leafing through the 'zine section and checking out their maybe piles at the listening station. A good mix of free magazines and gig flyers helps keep the community informed.
The Goods
Rather than taking one genre as its focus, Open Mind strives to provide quality collectibles in a wide range of styles. Vinyl predominates, with a small selection of new and used CDs. The sections aren't huge, but each one is distinguished by interesting stock in reliably fine condition. Browse for techno, house, jazz, soundtracks, exotica, punk, downtempo, disco and reggae. Prices are high on the things DJs fight over, more reasonable in other areas.

Look GoodThere's a new release schedule in the front window, and new arrivals are carefully sectioned and noted.
The ExtrasYou'll often find witty explanatory notes pasted on sticky labels on the shrink-wrap of more obscure or interesting items.
