Cajun-inspired chicken and biscuits chain proffers classic Southern favorites, seafood, sides and desserts with a tangy twist..
In Short
This Cajun-style fast food restaurant first opened in New Orleans in 1972 and has since achieved domestic and international fame for its flavorful mild and spicy chicken. In addition to the storied buttermilk biscuits, seafood menu items range from fried popcorn shrimp and shrimp snack "Craver Paks" to chicken sausage jambalaya, catfish baskets and shrimp etouffee. More festive Louisiana regional fare--think red beans and rice, and Mardi Gras cheesecake--rounds out the menu.
Crispy Chicken. Oh I love the mild fried chicken at this place. They were hot and juicy on the inside, and crispy on the outside. The biscuits are just heavenly, with a spread of butter and honey. This place is always packed but the service is fast and I can get in and out with no problems. I bought a 24 pc. party pack for the Superbowl sunday and all my friends loved the food. We will definitely be back very soon.
Oh my aching stomach...... This place gave me the runnnns. Stay away from the red beans and rice. Although I have been in since that horrible incident and they always seem to slip in a free biscuit or chicken strip.
Avoid this place. Their fried chicken tasted and smelled of spoiled oil, was dry, overcooked and not worth eating. The rice & beans are on par with other Popeye chains, so at least there's some consistency there. If you must have fast-food fried chicken, go to Kentucky Fried Chicken which tastes fresher than at this Popeye chain. Even the fried chicken when freshly made at the Safeway deli can be better than this Popeye's, it's gone downhill over the years. Definitely not worth plugging up your arteries for.
