What People Are Saying About Ocean Park Motel
The Owner
Ocean Park Motel
Owner
Graced with nautical porthole windows and balcony handrails, the Ocean Park was honored by the Art Deco Society in 1987 for preservation of this Streamline Moderne beauty. Now surrounded by a quiet residential neighborhood, the Ocean Park is operated by second-generation owners Marc and Vicki Duffett, who feel genuine pride and affection for this Art Deco landmark. In keeping with its romantic past, they have installed a secluded outdoor hot tub in one of the gardens, and Ocean Park is still a great spot for drinking champagne at midnight.

In Short – The second-generation owners have upgraded the property while maintaining such original features as porthole windows and balcony handrails. Deco touches also remain in the guest rooms and suites, where cedar paneling adds to the ambiance. Some accommodations come with full kitchens. The motel is in a residential area a block from Ocean Beach and the Zoo, and the vibe is definitely family-oriented. Shielded by a lattice fence, the outdoor hot tub is fitted into a pretty tiled patio.

Fun Fact:
It was built in 1936 and has received architectural awards for its Streamline Moderne design. It made headlines when it opened (it was the city's first motor hotel) and again in the summer of 2003, when a big-time jewel thief from a Union Square heist was caught in one of its rooms.
