Tips for John's Ocean Beach Cafe

A San Francisco Institution. This food is really great. I was told that John goes in very early in the morning and makes many of his menu items from scratch. The Eggs Benedict is always delicious and care is taken to make sure the eggs are poached to perfection. It's a great place to visit before or after the zoo, but my favorite thing to do is park near the beach to the north of the restaurant and walk along the multi-use path to John's. Then I'm nice and hungry for the delicious and filling food there. I can feel some "old school" San Francisco magic there, and the wait staff are friendly, casual and interesting. Some friends and I are headed there today, I can't wait!

Perhaps the most un-SF restaurant in the city, this Outer Sunset diner has a SoCal small town feel and a huge following of breakfast fans.. The aged movie posters that cover the walls and the old-school truck stop atmosphere are half of what makes John's Ocean Beach Café a Sunset district classic. The other half is a breakfast-heavy menu (think 20 different types of scrambles and omelets, a number of eggs Benedict choices, fluffy pancakes and more) served up all day. Oh, and don't come expecting things like soy lattes or homemade preserves with your breakfast either; this joint is strictly instant-coffee and Smuckers packets.

Best breakfast in town!. Great spot! The scrambles are sooo good. Love the fruit plate, too.

Parking is challenging. Don't let that discourage you from trying this one.

Great breakfast!. We discovered this place while staying at the Ocean Park Motel nearby. I've had the corned beef and spinach scrambler twice and the Philly cheese steak. Both were excellent! My wife has had the middle east scrambler with lamb sausage as well as the chicken-apple sausage scrambler special. Outstanding! Great coffee, too. Parking can be difficult because of the zoo, Ocean Beach and street cleaning restrictions (we got a ticket).

Best Breakfast in Town!. John's is my absolute favorite place to go for a lazy weekend breakfast. The poached eggs & corned beef hash is awesome, the scramblers are all great, the portions are big. And it's decently priced. Yum!
