In Short
A loyal following keeps this tiny Mexican takeout joint thriving. A total of seven stools and a small counter offer the option of a sit-down meal. The burritos--mini-mountains of ingredients that venture into knife-and-fork territory--are the signature offering. Diners get a choice of flavorfully stewed beef, chicken or pork accompanied by the usual fixings of rice and beans. Generous helpings of mild sauce, queso and pico de gallo give things a juicy consistency and wonderful guacamole--fresh-crushed avocado, not creamy or loaded with pico de gallo--make the final product a real winner.

what a fantastic accidential discovery! i have been a faithful customer for several years - even though the prices have gone up ever so slightly, by comparison this is by far one of the best bargin meals you can buy in Pacific Heights. My experiences have always be extremely great and I have come to know quite a few of the people who work there... so if you only have 5 bucks in your pocket - you can still walk out the door with change but don't forget to leave a tip - they desserve it ! I live four blocks away from El Burrito Express and have been going there for the past decade, and never have I had a negative experience. The burritos are thick, moist and hot, with lots of sauce and not too much rice like a lot of places. I always get a chicken burrito with hot sauce - the Super Broncos are huge, enough to split one with someone else and be satisfied. There is usually a line, but it moves quickly - these people are pros. The only downside: the chips that come free are dry, stale and practically inedible.

What to Drink:
To accompany your meal, try the sweet and refreshing horchata, a milky beverage that tastes like rice pudding and is a great complement to Mexican fare.
The Extras:
Beyond-the-burrito offerings such as fish tacos and beef tamales can be a bit dry.
